I don't disagree, but they should have shipped them back as soon as they were "emancipated". Could have given them a restitution of food, clothing, some farming tools, poultry and livestock and shipped that arse back to freedom.

Lincoln was a man of great character, enormous physical strength, poetic prose, and a great historic statesman. Truly one of the greatest Americans to ever have lived.

I can’t say Lincoln was a war criminal but Sherman sure as hell was.
