Would it make her a better Senator? What would she do different if she owned a more expensive house in LA? Sorry if I'm being obtuse here. I just don't see how it would make someone more likely to vote for her if she owned a more expensive house in LA... Would an expensive LA home align her politics closer to the people in LA? I think she's pretty misaligned and askew. But her home value has little to do with it...
The fact she and her husband own a 2.5 million dollar home in DC is a symptom of what is wrong with Mary and other pols like herself.
Technically she is from La., but relativity home is in DC. Reality is she and her husband can afford a 2.5 million dollar home although they pretend to be one of the little guys, and best know what Louisianans want and how we live.
Reality is they are in an elite class of politicians and its those kind of politicians who have screwed up this country.

I'm sorry if I'm being to pizzy about this... but I'm sick of people demonizing people based on their wealth.

Her net worth is $1.795 million Bill Cassidy's net worth is $1.592 million.
Elitists!
BTW, LSU Law Professor Baker (very conservative) wrote an opinion re residency LINK

As one of the lawyers for Ms. Landrieu's opponent Woody Jenkins in his recount challenge to her first Senate race in 1996, I certainly hope her time in federal office comes to an end soon. A legal challenge under Louisiana law to her qualifications to be on the upcoming ballot, however, will fail.

Knowing your lack of integrity you've shown on this board, you probably don't see a difference between the two candidates.

I'm hoping that Cassidy's net worth is being dumbed down… a middle-aged doctor who is married to ANOTHER middle-aged doctor and yet their net worth is only $1.6 million? That's horrible - what are they doing with their income and can we really trust somebody who is clearly underperforming at asset management to represent us in the United States Senate?

To quote you before you edited your post, "that's pathetic."

In 1998, Cassidy helped found the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic to provide uninsured residents of the greater Baton Rouge area with access to free health care. The Clinic provides low-income families free dental, medical, mental health and vision care through an innovative "virtual" approach that partners needy patients with doctors who provide care free of charge.[4]
Cassidy has also been involved in setting up the non-profit Health Centers in Schools, which provides Hepatitis B and flu vaccinations to children in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.[5][6]
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Cassidy led a group of health care volunteers to convert an abandoned K-Mart building into an emergency health care facility, providing basic health care to victims of the natural disaster.[7]

I'm amazed at the things you people have time to be outraged about. They bought land in DC where property values have sucked, built the house and it's increased in value. Isn't that, ya know, the American Dream?

But carry on.

We purchased a vacant lot on Capitol Hill and built a home on E Capitol Street, four blocks from the Capitol. The real estate market was quite weak at the time but I believed it would improve and it has. I became the contractor shortly after construction of the house began and completed it in the Summer of 2002. What a learning experience dealing with subs, suppliers carpenters and permitting officials!
But carry on.

I'm happy for Landrieu. I want her clout to remain in the Senate working for the great state of Louisiana and its constituents.

Sounds like we need to keep him around in Louisiana

His net worth was at $3.2 million in 2010. That site has his financial statements. Haven't read them so I don't know how he took the loss.

There's another dimension to this that no one has mentioned and that is the extra challenge that a woman and a mother faces when she runs for national office. The kids have to attend school and when they're small they need to be with their mother. I could imagine the outcry if she left the kids in Monroe or New Orleans and just visited them on weekends. Male senators and reps often make BOQ arrangements or apartment shares and leave the little woman at home in Podunk to raise the kids. Seems unfair to me.

I thought we were all equal? Women do not face "an extra challenge". Kids need fathers just as much.
They face the the same challenge - family-work life balance.
The difference is men don't have a political party to bitch about it for them to attract votes.
Sorry, I can't see Mary as a victim for this.

Certainly not, but getting wealthy while working for the public and using your position for access into the financial world is how she and her hubby got wealthy. Surely you understand how that works, right?

She is currently running commercials here in La. showing how "in touch" she is with the little guy, the regular folk in La. That's what I was reacting to. In fact she's doing that and calling Cassidy a rich doctor, etc.
quote:Yes, unfortunately.
Unfortunately, the people of LA elected her to do just that.

Mary is the classic example of regular guy/girl goes to DC and forgets where she has come from. I agree, and it is what is killing this country.

Not a victim. She chose to be a full-time mom and a full-time senator. That necessitated that she live in D.C. It's disingenuous of you to pretend that there isn't a double standard.

Cassidy use to do a lot of pro bono work here in BR. Maybe that's why he's not a gazillionaire.
