Quick question. You seem to be caught up on healthcare.

LASIK eye surgery has gotten better, and cheaper, since it’s inception. The price per eye is nearly half today as what it was a decade ago.

Even with inflation, the price has STILL decreased for this medical procedure.

Do you have any idea why this medical procedure was able to see it’s price get reduced by such a large margin where other medical procedures have done nothing but go way up in cost in the same time?

Did you read the transcript of his 60 Minutes interview where he defended Fidel Castro and admits that he doesn't know how much his ideas will cost or how to pay for them?

I genuinely don't but I know that you're correct about the cost of LASIK and I'm curious as to why that is. lay it on me

Well, you said that you supported him because he was the only one talking about the problems, so I wasn't sure.

He also said he doesn't support any president getting more power. So....he is either clueless or lying. Maybe both?

Because the govt plays zero part in it. Health insurance doesn’t cover it.

This leads to direct competition between doctors that perform the operation, which lowers the cost.

Imagine that. The free market made the operation cheaper.

In general, elective medical procedures that are not covered by insurance have been subject to practically pure market pressures, which have decreased prices and increased quality. Nearly every single product or service that is not subject to interference from the state results in the exact same phenomenon.

then why don't we run all of the health insurance industry that way? zero regulation whatsoever, just let everyone compete and let the market sort out the rates

That isn’t important.

They really are the opposite of Trump’s base.

Trump’s supporters are hung up on bringing the US government down and starting over, while fostering the capitalist system.

The Bernie Bros want to build up the federal government at every level while bringing down the capitalist system and fostering a socialist/communist system.

How it will be funded is if no consequence.

If there's one thing Bernie Bros despise it's a free market in the healthcare field

Because the AMA and insurance companies have captured regulatory power from the state.

I’m down.

But that’s the exact opposite of what Bernie wants.

You, and Bernie, want MORE regulation and MORE govt interference.

That RAISES the cost. Congratulations. You just learned a basic rule of economics 101

Well, for one, the entity that you want to expand, the federal government is merged so thoroughly with the insurance industry, we will never be able to.

I always find it funny when people blame the medical industry for pricing when it is the fault of legislation.

Do you know what percentage my hospital receives from Medicare/Medicaid?

<20%

And that decrease almost yearly.

Hospitals cannot survive off of that.

It wouldn't matter if he gave a number I guess. Government programs always turn out to be wildly more expensive than estimates. Especially if he wants open borders and free government healthcare for non citizens.

The most bizarre thing about their mentality is that they claim to hate Trump because he's trying to take away everyone's rights, yet all they talk about is how they need to make more laws to restrict speech, freedom of association, how people spend their money, how they're able to trave, and how they consume energy.

that's right

the biggest donors to individuals and superpacs was BCBS, who donate MILLIONS to both parties

which is why individuals coming from outside the pre-ordained establishment (i.e. trump and DNC outcast sanders) are more popular than ever with their populist message

I just like sanders much more than trump. but this is why I don't want to crucify trump voters, even though I disagree with them

A Medicare for all system would crush a lot of smaller hospitals as well. They make most of their money for employee raises, facility improvements, new technology etc on private insurance.

The government would have to prop up thousands of them or they would fold.

Would you please, in your own words, explain the effect of the Citizens United decision?
