You're telling me this isn't word play designed to confuse the average voter?

Lotta people angry and horrified about Montana voting to let a baby die after birth.

But the devil is in the details and this is how horrific stuff passes sometimes when it shouldn’t.

Read that. That’s how it read on the ballot. How would you vote?

I don't think you appreciate how stupid the average person is.

Case in point, this website is focused around college sports. One can safely assume that posters here are more college educated than the overall population, and this place is full of morons

Do you believe parents should have the right to take their child off of life support or should it be the government who makes the decision?

Now you understand why Montana - certainly no liberal bastion - would vote the way they did.

This was my first thought.

I've been having to deal with this sort of decision with both parents of late. Neither wants to be kept alive in a vegetative state so why should the state force it on a baby that has no chance?

If your parents were vegetables because you tried unsuccessfully to murder them, you don't get to tell the ambulance driver to leave them be until they finish dying.

That is what this is. Holy crap man.

Not sure what point you're trying to make there.

They had a vote on whether a baby born alive, ostensibly following a (failed?) abortion, needed to be given life saving care. 52% voted no. That they did not have to help a human, breathing baby. They could just let it die.

What? Is this real? In Montana?

Own it libs!

It’s not about the mothers ability to decide her health choices.

It’s about ending the baby. Stopping any chance the baby has to live because it is an inconvenience.

Just own it.

We don't know that these babies would have no chance, but what we do know is that they would have no choice, unlike your parents.

You holy rollers are killing the republican party.

Got news for you; A candidate saying she is against abortion even in cases to save the mothers life is considered extreme by over 90% of the electorate. Same with rape and incest.

Keep bitching about losing while ignoring the fact you are the reason why.

What's most adorable is you think a voter that gets hung up on this single issue when the country is as fricked as it is currently is somehow not going to vote for these same idiots over and over.

Not defending the results, but how many of the people voting against this measure did so because they tied the penalties to any health care professions into the decision.

Would be curious what percentage of those voting against this measure either work in healthcare, or have family members in the health care industry and were worried about some sort of overreach

The problem with this one was the wording of the measure. It was very confusing, and shite like that will receive a no vote from many. Plus most people have an initial reaction to vote no on any new measures unless something about it is compelling enough to vote yes. This is on whoever wrote this stupid law, not the voters.
Opposition was sold on the notion that the breadth of the language would prevent parents and their physician from choosing not to attempt heroic, but hopeless, care. The language COULD be read that way.

Proposals which limit the options of families and physicians will ALWAYS draw some opposition, even from people who generally sympathize with the overall goal.

Taking a child who is going to die without being kept alive artificially off of life support is NOT - in any way shape or form - the same as not even trying to save a child that might be saved.

With this vote, why can't a Montana mother just kill her two year old if she decides she doesn't want it? What about a mouthy teenager?

Anyone who supports this is just plain evil and stupid.
