Looks like he was in Vietnam for the worst of it (1968-69).

Makes you wonder when the wheels came off for him.
His FBI record is suspect and this farce he is running as a SP is going to ruin his reputation.

So for 4 years of his life he was a hero?

Big fricking deal.

He has spent the last 40 years as an attorney, an incompetent and corrupt FBI director, a corporate attorney, and a special prosecutor running a fruitless witch hunt.

Congrats for his medals and service in his 20s. What have you done for me lately?

eta: And you know if rags like Wired are running puff pieces on someone then that someone is about to be disgraced and this is preemptive cover.

Like with McCain, has nothing to do with the man he turned into upon going into politics.

A person can serve in the military and still end up being a piece of shite, you do understand that, right?

Those who knew him well at the Naval Academy and in the Marines Corps said they found such harsh recent descriptions as a ''bull elephant gone amok,'' and ''loose cannon'' hard to reconcile with the professional, diligent performance they saw during the colonel's 13 years of active duty.

During the Vietnam War, he was once swept from the deck of a tank by its revolving turret. But, according to a battle citation, he grabbed a grenade launcher, climbed back onto the tank and led an attack that killed seven North Vietnamese soldiers. On another occasion during his 11-month tour he led three assaults on an enemy position until it finally fell.
quote:

He won his Bronze Star on Feb. 22, 1969, and the Silver Star on May 25 of the same year. Both battles took place in Quang Tri, the northernmost province of South Vietnam near the demilitarized zone separating North and South Vietnam.

The official citation for the Silver Star said that when another Marine platoon was pinned down by the North Vietnamese, he rapidly moved his own platoon into position and ''personally initiated an aggressive assault against the North Vietnamese Army emplacement,'' forcing ''the stunned hostile soldiers to withdraw to another hill.''

The citation said he ''assumed the foremost assault position, and seemingly oblivious to the intense machinegun fire impacting around him, led his men against the hostile position.''

The citation says he stopped his attacks only for a new supply of ammunition and a supporting air strike and then ''calmly braving the intense fire of the tenacious hostile soldiers'' made a final assault that ''enabled his men to seize the objective'' and ''inspired all who observed him.''

He received the Bronze Star for his action on the tank, in which the citation said, he ''completely disregarded his own safety as he boldly remained in his dangerously exposed position on top the tank to deploy his men.''

He also received two Purple Hearts for battle wounds.
Sounds pretty valorous, alright.

Oh wait, this wasn't about the guy in the OP, it was about some other government official who fought in Viet Nam.

How do you feel about him?

How about you spend as much time telling the story of Mueller's performance in the wake of the anthrax attacks where he tried to frame an innocent man, ultimately resulting in the government having to pay millions in settlement money to said innocent man? Mueller is a disgrace, regardless of what his Vietnam service may have been.

My ex-wife had an uncle that won a bronze star and a couple purple hearts but he is serving 50 years in prison for buttfricking kids.

So what exactly is your point?
