I think this proposal is stupid, but he's not telling you to take it lying down, he's saying this is more of the same and it's extremely unlikely this has any intent of "changing the American flag" or political connotation
I agree with him, we have real battles to fight, I don't want to hyperventilate because some design firm probably decided the full flag was too busy for the modern logo

There are dozens of options made any time a logo is redesigned. I think it looks stupid and should be canned, but there is no reason to be outraged by concept logo art.

The main Olympic logo is made by the host city, yes.
Every Olympic committee and pretty much any organization of any type and at all levels everywhere on earth has its own logo though.

It's not a redesign, more of an alternate logo. Sports teams do this stuff all the time, sometime networks even mock up their own version of a team's logo or lettering, etc.
