You seem to be getting some flak for this statement, but I actually agree with you. Sins of public figures who proclaim the name of Christ do give cause for unbelievers to blaspheme the name of Christ.

In my Presbyterian denomination, our elders use the language of sinners bringing "reproach on Christ" in censures, and giving "occasion to the enemies of the Lord to mock and curse".

This principle is found in many passages of the Bible, but particularly in Romans 2:24, where Paul calls out the Jews for their sins and says, "For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

I agree with your sentiment and believe all Christians should forsake sin and live upright and obedient (to Christ) lives, not just to please the Lord, but as an example of how we are different from the world. Christians with higher offices or who are public figures must be especially on guard in this respect, as their sins can certainly give occasion for Christ's enemies to blaspheme His name and denigrate the Church because of it.

Being Catholic Christian is never going to be easy.

We all read your post and we know what you are inferring. Again, gaslight yourself bro, in 2026, we are done with weak, pushover Christianity

From the eternal wrath of God against sin.

Jesus died to save sinners who put their trust in Him, forgiving their sins and imputing to them His righteousness to stand pure before God.

While true believers will not be perfect in this life, the same Spirit that regenerates and makes a person "born again" is the same Spirit that sanctifies and makes us more and more like Christ in obedience. A person who demonstrates no fruit of good works, or a lack of repentance for sin, demonstrates that they are not a branch grafted into Christ, and so must repent and turn from their sins, and believe upon Jesus for forgiveness.

I don't know this woman's heart so I cannot pass judgement on her eternal state. But living in such an unrepentant sin is not a good sign of her spiritual condition, which is why I said I hope she repents.

You make that sound easy. Repentance for something like this is something most people are incapable of. Not just because of the act of repentance, but the state you’re in when you commit these types of deeds.

Yeah what does it say to the world when then kind of behavior is not condemned by the Church? Young people look at the Church and see more of the same they see in the secular world. Women not being held to account for their actions...and sin being marginalized. What young man in 2026, would look at this situation, see Christians lecturing the husband about annulling the marriage, and say "yeah I want some of that"?

The Church should most certainly condemn sin and discipline the sinner.

I believe a prominent reason for why the Church has been in decline in its influence over society in the past century in particular has been due to moving away from calling sin "sin", and refusing to discipline members for grievous and unrepentant sin.

When churches and their leaders refuse to deal with sin, it will just breed more of it, and weaken the voice and influence Christianity has, as people see Christianity as being no different (or even worse!) than being an unbeliever and living as a "good" person.

This is why Jesus and His disciples put so much emphasis on good works, not as a means of salvation, but as an evidence of it, and as a necessary part of the life of Christians individually, and the Church as a whole.

1000% agree

I remember when I was a kid(in the 90s) hearing about a girl at a Christian HS getting pregnant. She had to apologize for her behavior in front of her church. One might look at this and say "how cruel is this, the girl is already suffering enough" but what about the young kids in the church that day that saw this and it was imprinted on their brains later in their life when the same temptations presented themselves.

We are to a point where we venerate sinners in the church now. People giving their testimony are awarded extra cred, the more degenerate their lifestyle was. We dont honor the grandmother who was faithful to one man her whole life, bore many children, brought them to church every sunday, was a true helper to her husband. THAT is the real trad woman.

Very true. I can’t speak for the evangelical/protestant churches… I’m sure it varies. But almost all of the Catholic Novus Ordo Churches and Priests are completely weak and neutered. There is no rebuking of sin that is actually happening, and hardly any discussion of sin and its consequences. It’s all happy clappy feel good stuff.

Wasn’t there some beef with a few of the ‘trad’ YouTubers? I believe one was accusing another of sleeping around at a Republican convention or something. That redhead Pearl Davis was involved.

The Bible is God's revelation, and how we know what happens after death.

In terms of punishment for sin, that seems to be encoded into humanity (because we're made in God's image). We can know God exists from creation, as His existence and power can be deduced merely from studying the universe. Our innate desire for justice is a reflection of our creator, and if a timeless, space-less, changeless, powerful and personal being like God exists, and He made us with justice as a reflection of His own moral character then naturally some form of punishment for sin against a holy and eternal God must exist.
