Considering your general femininity I could see how this would be upsetting unfortunately not all nurses are female

I have three nurses in my family. They’re concerned about this because if they wanted to go back and pursue their PA degree they cannot get financial aid.
Boo hoo. This is one reason why medical is so expensive because it’s subsidized from the beginning.

They aren't professionals. Their training does not require a bachelor's degree prior.
Engineering and chemistry, physics etc aren't "professional" careers either. I fall into this bucket. In no way is this an insult to anyone. Its merely a classification for a class of careers which require a bachelor's prior to training. This training is very narrow and niche.
Nurses are fricking stupid and insufferable.

Teachers unions have been screaming for "professional" status for decades. Its hilarious

This comment shows your ignorance on this issue. You just threw out a comment and it proves your submission to feelings and emotions, not facts.

Glad we can agree on something here Roger

However, per a 1965 federal law (via USA Today), nursing was never on the list of professional degrees. So, what does it all mean? While nursing degree definitions aren't changing, it's still bad news.
It seems like the law is outdated and needs to be changed.

What it boils down to is that professional degrees will have higher loan caps than non-professional degrees. With nursing considered a non-professional degree, despite the fact that there are master's-level programs for nursing and nurse practitioners, they will be subject to loan caps for non-professional degrees, which are significantly lower.
The loan caps are commensurate with the typical cost of the degrees. Look at the caps as a percentage of the total average cost of the degrees.
It’s a federal designation for funding, nothing more. People shouldn’t read into more than that.
ETA: Except theology. That one is probably tied to lobbying or politics.

Isn't this just part of the plan to cap what universities can charge for degrees?

It simply a change in designation to apply downward pressure on professional degree pricing.

my grandma was a nurse with no schooling.
We should let people be doctors and lawyers and engineers with no schooling. Someone’s grandparent did these jobs without schooling at some point
Let’s just get rid of schools. They just indoctrinate people and teach them things. We have YouTube and Twitter now. We don’t need schools.

Indirectly. Govt subsidies destroyed Post Sec. education for a lot of folks, just like its done to child care and health care.
My ex is an RN. She got her AA, was hired by a specialty hospital who then paid for her AA, and then paid for her BS, as long as she worked for them a number of years.

A buddy’s wife got her masters in social work from Wash U because she “wanted to learn from the best.” If she was doing it today, she would be paying $2,688/credit hour.
An MSW degree is 85 hrs at Wash U.
An average MSW makes around $70k in Missouri.
A 20 year repayment makes the payment ~$2200.

Do you not understand that there are vastly different levels of nursing? It goes from about the same level as mopping a floor to just short of being a doctor.
One of the main requirements for something being a "profession" has always been that it's self-regulating. Things like engineering, doctors, whatever. But I would think that some nursing fields fall under that description and some don't.

Nurse practitioner organizations have been lobbying that there needs to be more of them in rural areas.
Then they graduate and do lip filler injections in the suburbs.

Eh, no different than "doctors" who bolt silicone tits onto those same housewives. They're still technically legit professional doctors.
When my primary care doc I'd had for decades retired I ended up with an LNP. I don't need to see a specialist for annual bloodwork or strep throat. Financially it makes sense to me to have different levels of care with different cost levels.
