I'm clueless on this subject. Can someone explain what Israeli settlements are and why US abstaining is big?

It's survival of the fittest.

You clearly dont understand the competitive environment of the middle east. It's not one where everyone gets a trophy.

We can't paint entire populations with such broad generalizations.
Wasn't tryng to. Speaking more to their "leadership", who they align with, and how any form of Palestinian/Iran lnfluenced government could be expected to act.

there's no reason Israel should lose out on the benefits of multiculturalism.
In their case "multiculturalism" gets them killed. Perhaps you see that as a "benefit". I don't expect anyone to accept that "benefit".

It's silly in the year 2016 for Israel to practice the same policies that our tolerant Jews in the West decry as racist and xenophobic.
On the surface, sure. But Israeli Jews do not live in the US, nor with our political and cultural environment.

Expecting the same response to American ideals in a completely different cultural environment is the same mistake GWB made when he expected the Iraqis to welcome us with open arms and democracy to spread across the Middle East.

They aren't like us. (Ant that's OK!) But expecting them to magcially become like us is... well... polyannish.

Whatever your position on Israel, reasonable people should recognize the settlements are terrible.

given the circumstances, esp the region, "terrible" is way too far

aggressive is a better word, but even then that's pussy shite for the mid east

it's all that you can do in the Mid East

it's not just an Israel thing. there is a handful of civil wars going on in that region at any moment for a reason. you have to play for keeps in that region. it's game of thrones shite. you either win or you die

That is why the Jews figure they have carte Blanche. Wall Street loves it. Clinton planned to send it into hyperdrive. More of our guys dying by the thousands for Israel. Not now though, thank God.

There was a concept called "Land For Peace" put forward some years ago. After Yitzak Rabin was assassinated by an Israeli in 1995 as he was leaving a peace rally, the Israelis in favor of this concept have been marginalized.

The Israeli Right has stolen more and more of the land that should belong to a Palestinian state. This makes "facts on the ground" that would be hard to ignore.

The UN vote? Israel doesn't like seeing their nazi-like behavior exposed. We in the U.S. are supposed to ignore the ring in our nose by which the Israelis lead us around.

Yup it is the same as Hitler's Drang Nacht Osten - the urge to the East. Except the Israeli urge is to the West (actually east of Israel proper) - the West Bank, where the Palestinians live.

Israel's enemies see us as complicit in the theft of these lands. This makes wars and rumors of war.

But it is great for Wall Street and the destruction of the United States continues as we neglect everything in -this- country - infrastructure, education, R&D for peaceful purposes - all to benefit the Jews.

What I mean by this is that the conflicts generated by Israel feed the maw of the Military/Congressional Industrial Complex. Wall Street loves it - so those people get fabulously wealthy as the promise of America dries up for the rest of us.

Look where we were in 1970 and look where we are now. It is the M/CIC that is the cause. Support of Israel generates perpetual war.

Let the Jews sink or swim and let Americans look to America.

What makes you think Americans dying for Israel is going to stop with Trump?

What made you say something so stupid? I didn't say anything like that. I don't expect any fundamental changes. There is too much at stake.

Our motto, though, needs to be "Tribalism, not Globalism."

Globalism is sucking the life out of the United States.

Trump wanted the UN Resolution on Israel's Drang Nacht Osten vetoed by the U.S. The Obama Administration abstained instead.

How did you miss that?
