I spent many years running a facility in a fairly dangerous industry, if course the challenge is to reduce the risk as much as possible. OSHA really only gets involved after a casualty, I never once had an unannounced OSHA inspection.

The people who scare you is your insurer, OSHA fines are negligible, but if your insurance rates go up it can get real serious real quick.

large company with serious safety program. an employee passing out for any reason was considered fatality potential. Heat of august, employee passes out in large packaging area require mgmt investigation participation. Bulk of investigation centered on employee actions, pacing workload, salt tablets, etc. Mgmt observed lack of problems at night. Staff described tasks as a day activity so staff could inspect final package.
kinda obvious, shift work to night shift and require staff inspection to follow night shift... problem solved osha not involved

But if OSHA cared they would force the employer to provide it. We can afford new machines that cost in the 6 figures all the time so money isn't an issue. Obviously, our place should care but why is OSHA not enforcing safety on that reasoning but Covid which is useless.

Is OSHA aware of this? If they are is there a regulation that they can enforce? If there not aware then you should call them and report your employer. OSHA can only take action if they can prove your employer is in violation of a regulation.

Yes, there a lot of companies who don’t or don’t understand how to care and how it benefits everyone including the bottom line.

There are also a lot of companies that do. People talk about quitting over the vaccine. You should also quit when working for an unsafe employer or one that doesn’t know how to take care of its workers.

I used to laugh when people asked about getting hired where I worked. When they asked if it was air conditioned I knew they didn't really want a job.

It's morons like you that are the reason so many shops are not air conditioned.

6 acres of buildings. The oldest built in 1854. About 150 to 200 men working there year round. Hot or cold. You should stop with the name calling and find a nice cozy office job.

Oh, people complain. They show up a couple times a year. They jot it down but it's ignored. They end up making our job harder with useless stuff on our machines that don't do anything. That's why I've always thought OSHA was useless. Federal gov't has never had our best interest

What is the regulation your employer is violating? I’m not say your employer is in the right, they should take care of their employees. It actually improves productivity and the bottom line. However, OSHA can’t do anything if there is no regulation being violated.

So the factory isn’t air conditioned? Ok, so. I work in a Sheetmetal shoo that doesn’t have AC, just fans and louvers, like most other similar settings. What about those dudes that work in the field? Digging ditches for underground chilled water in Birmingham in August? No AC for them either. Oh, and those same guys do the same shite in the winter too without heat except for maybe a salamander in the ditch with them or on the floor in the building, that has no walls or windows.

There are many environments where air conditioning or air exchange systems actually create a bigger hazard than the heat presents... In most cases, on an enclosed building, that is the reason there is not some sort of conditioning or exchange system...

Still stupid for sure. Have worked in many hot shops. It is truly the stupids like yourself that keep people sweating. Get a better job and pull your head out.

depends. if they have no ac installed then id say yes. if its just not working, well that shite happens in the south.

it takes a lot to cool off large spaces in the heat down here. units break or leak and need to be worked on. there is a shortage of workers. So could take a while for shite to get fixed.

OSHA is a govt bureaucracy. Which govt agency cares about anything except getting more money for doing as little as possible?

That is what a Walmart DC manager would say. Begins to sweat and walks back to the 68 degree office.
