Of course.

It just doesn’t make sense as a pejorative.

It would be like calling the Tiger Athletic Foundation fanatical!

Uh, yeah, do you mean “fans”? That they are.

No! I mean they are really a bunch of fanatics!!

Ummm, okay.

It's the dirty secret they don't like to talk about. I wonder what the extent of the problem is in Orthodox churches? Despite the recent growth, they are still a small number as a whole.....maybe 1.5 - 2 million total.

Good. Maybe you can link it here.

Rape:

quote:

CCC 2356:
Rape is the forcible violation of the sexual intimacy of another person. It does injury to justice and charity. Rape deeply wounds the respect, freedom, and physical and moral integrity to which every person has a right. It causes grave damage that can mark the victim for life. It is always an intrinsically evil act. Graver still is the rape of children committed by parents (incest) or those responsible for the education of the children entrusted to them.

Pillage:

CCC 2408–2409 condemn theft and all unjust taking of another's property, including forms like fraud, corruption, unjust wages, and any "unjustly taking and keeping the property of others."

Pillage aligns here as a grave form of theft involving violence and force, violating justice and charity. The Catechism emphasizes restitution for stolen goods (CCC 2412) and condemns actions that deprive others of their rightful possessions.

In the Catholic Church, the priest does not forgive sins by his own power. Instead, he acts in the person of Christ (in persona Christi). Catholics believe that Jesus is the one who forgives, and the priest is His instrument.

How does a priest get that authority?

Jesus told his apostles: “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” (John 20:22–23)

It's the sacrament of reconciliation. The sacraments are a bridge between the Word and real life.

From Morning Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours today:
quote:

Ephesians 4:29-32 Never let evil talk pass your lips; say only the good things men need to hear, things that will really help them. Do nothing that will sadden the Holy Spirit with whom you were sealed against the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, all passion and anger, harsh words, slander, and malice of every kind. In place of these, be kind to one another, compassionate, and mutually forgiving, just as God has forgiven you in Christ.

I'm not Catholic. He's just another dude to me. And not even an impressive dude.

Pope John Paul II I liked. But this guy and Frances are both suspect to me. Not even sure they are legit regarding how they "got the job."

It is a problem everywhere, and every entity and organization that must remain vigilant, because it can and does happen, and it is not all that rare. That has been the case since the dawn of human time and it will not change until the End of Time itself.
