So what is the actual point of tariffs?
You know, I'd have sworn that question has been asked and answered several dozen times. Yet here we are again.

Among other things, and in no particular order

Tariffs:
• Reset the trade imbalance
• Reduce the deficit
• Incentivize domestic production
• Incentivize domestic domiciling
• Increase domestic employment
• Increase income/corp tax revenue w/o raising rates
• Improve national security
• Enhance national ethos

You forgot raise the cost of doing business.

Have you seen the business bankruptcy numbers from July in the US?

Or are those fake and the people reporting them need to be fired as well?

At least he had an excuse then.

Its going to be an age of bigger corporations and fewer small businesses.

Factual

One of the few ways small businesses could compete with big corp was using cheaper import components and adding value, creating wealth.

Y'all are literally destroying their opportunity; they cannot eat the tariffs.

You are saying some tariffs will overcome 2 centuries of American ingenuity and I find your lack of faith in the market pretty pathetic. I get it you're an old and tired man, but there are Americans out there ready to fill the void wherever it may pop up. I promise you.

US corporate bankruptcies in July hit their highest monthly level since 2020. The number of large public and private companies filing for bankruptcy increased from 66 in June to 71 in July. This makes 446 bankruptcy filings for the first seven months of 2025, the most since 2010.

I’m not going to claim tariffs are the leading driver of this. But the claim appears accurate.

Thats generic and vague.

I'm telling you it will strip opportunity for people to become entrepreneurs, and is a gift to massive corporations.

This isnt opinion.

If you can’t see how tariffs would hurt small business more acutely, you might be retarded.

I wasn't suggesting he was lying. I am suggesting that as per usual, the poster tells his favorite part of the story. I like to look into some things myself.

I'm also not immediately concerned with an increase in failed businesses without at least knowing where more or fewer businesses are being started. Most fail, as many of us are aware.

I usually exit a thread when people like you stop thinking and use personal attacks as a strategy. It's very disappointing. You're better than that.

The platitudes in here are so simple it's almost insulting to anyone with real world experience, but this thread is too aged to get into that.

The game of dismissing every negative piece of data is just a game. Grow up. You can support Trump and still live on Earth.
