I guess he was suppose to wait and see if the dog would attack him or not? The owner was having to hold them back...
I'm withholding judgement here.

True dumb criminal story from the states. Cops go to arrest a guy at his home who had fought police before so they take a k9 unit. Knock on the door guy opens the door and hits a cop and takes off through the house, cop unleashes the dog and yells "Go holin" dog catches the guy in the backyard with the dog continually biting him as he screams "down holin, down holin". Cop strolls up taking his time and says "yo sport the dogs name is not holin, I said to him in German hol ihn, which means get him. So you keep telling the dog "down...get him" and the dog is just complying.

Police K-9s are considered the same as human police officers when cops are charging criminals so why not the same for family pets?

Most family pets aren't trained for shite. This creates bad situations for large breed dogs.
I've raised my fair share of GSDs... Our newest one has anxiety issues that we're just now starting to work out (she's 1.5 years old atm). We've been ultracareful about the whos, whats, whens and wheres with respect to her encountering anyone outside our immediate family.
The idea that someone would have three large breed dogs running around in the street/front yard, without any verbal control over them, is insane.
I feel for the dog and the family, but for Christ's sake get control of your animals.

You didn’t watch the video, did you?

I'm surprised he didn't get taken out like the dog he killed. Should have.

Had that been my dog that cop would've had to shoot me to keep me from killing him with my bare hands. Stupid cocksucker. I hope all bad things in life happen to that prick.

Then you deserved to be slapped. 3 large breed dogs running around totally uncontrolled?
Don't buy them if you're not going to train them.

Then you know that they are nothing like yellow labs or golden retrievers.
putz.
*Frankly, if your dog is so dangerous you need to keep it away from unfamiliar people perhaps it should be put down.

I know enough to know that people do die from being attacked by labs and goldens.
It's a large breed dog, control it.

Never said that.
I'm being cautious because I'm involved in the lives of the dogs I purchase. If I see questionable behavior, I limit contact until I work it out because I'm not taking chances - unlike most other large breed dog owners.

Frankly I'm surprised that cop didn't get an epic beating.
I would now be dead or in jail for killing that a-hole cop.

I've literally never come across an aggressive yellow lab
This. If a lab was running at me full clip it might startle me and I might even expect it to bite me in the wrong scenario, but I would sooner shoot a chihuahua out of fear for my ankles than a lab attacking me.

No it wasn't. It was a bad mistake but the Policeman was probably ignorant of most canine characteristics. He probably doesn't know the difference between a Lab and a Mastiff. He needs more education/training.
If an adult is too stupid to know the difference between a lab and a mastiff without training, then he or she is too stupid to carry a badge.

At least half of cops are worthless Pigs. The other 50% are corrupt scumbags.

Cop Kills Harmless Labrador…
But when these things occur, where is the root cause analysis?
This type incident goes to either hiring, training, or both. There is NO honesty in the process. None!
E.g., Five cops in the George Floyd case. They wrestle Floyd to the ground and four of them simultaneously kneel on the guy's back, while a fifth watches as if it's an everyday occurrence (which assuredly it was). Obviously this was a fairly routine Minneapolis PD maneuver. So during a root cause analysis, that aspect of restraint is reconsidered or modified. Yet, when the lying POS Police Chief takes the stand, he denies the kneeling maneuver was a part of Minneapolis training or an MPD norm. Any semblance of RCA is shutdown because it might implicate negligence of someone up top.
In this instance, it appears the cop drew his gun when the first dog approached. There is no way in hell this was the first to the cop in question prematurely drew his weapon. THAT is where the inquiry should go. Instead, this cop will be tossed into the refuse bin, and the next premature weapon drawer will be hired in his place.
