There were 9 Rs and 4 Ds on the Committee.

The post replies to a thread criticizing Rep. Thomas Massie for accepting a Quincy Institute award from executive vice president Trita Parsi, highlighting images of FEC records showing over $50,000 in 2025 donations to Massie's campaign from multiple Mahrouq family members, alongside Parsi's smaller historical contributions to progressive Democrats like Ilhan Omar and Bernie Sanders.
Quincy Institute, a transpartisan think tank co-founded by Parsi in 2019, advocates U.S. foreign policy restraint and receives funding from sources including George Soros's Open Society Foundations and Charles Koch's Stand Together, totaling millions annually per public disclosures.
Parsi, formerly head of the National Iranian American Council, has faced accusations of pro-Iran lobbying, though the institute denies foreign influence and emphasizes its diverse donor base to support non-interventionist positions shared by figures across the political spectrum.

That is no excuse for his praising an individual directly involved with the death of American soldiers. He can disagree with policy all he wants but this crosses a line.
Rand Paul opposes this action but has not yet crossed the line.

This tired pap again? The House passed the bill 314-117. It had plenty of votes to e brought to the floor without committee approval.
Had he voted no in committee it wouldn’t have gone to the floor. That is a fact.

quote:False. Only 218 votes are needed for a discharge petition that ignores the committee. The bill easily had that.

Also, if you're going to claim that had Massie not voted for the committee discharge, the government would have remained shut down for the remainder of the Biden administration, I'm going to laugh at you. Hell, even Trump was begging for suspension of the debt ceiling and re-passing of Biden's budget in December of 2024.

No such petition was needed because Massie joined the Dems to get it out of committee. Fact.
I thought Massie voted on principle. Doesn’t matter if it will win or lose….isnt that correct?

They don’t care it’s only about OMB for them

I thought you did too. Yet you deride Massie for "voting for" a core Trump policy (who you presumably still support). It's dissonant, man. Sorry.
I’m not a congressman. Massie voted for the Biden budget. No getting around that. His principles only apply to Trump, I guess.

Obtuse is trying to forgive a procedural vote because your guy did it. It’s ok to say he was wrong in that issue.

quote:Nah. There's nothing to forgive. The people we should be mad at are the 314 people that voted for it -- and those that not only still support the same spending and debt accrual today, but want more of it jus because your guy wants it. Pretending it's all Massie's fault is silly.
Obtuse is trying to forgive a procedural vote because your guy did it.
The idea that we'd had a balanced budget the last 18 months of Biden's adminsitration if only Massie hadn't voted the bill out of committee is.... well... preposterous.

Trump fought hard to re-pass Biden's budget 3x. then added more spending
And I disagree with that just like I disagree with Massie voting for it. You? Nah. The real cult can’t cross Massie.
