Hell, look at this board. There’s STILL people posting, bitching about the Covid vaccine. “Did you get a booster?” became common accepted political discourse for completely unrelated topics.
That whole saga defined that era and being against “the jab” has defined the personality for an entire generation of incels.

The medical community who chose to harass doctors who prescribed it, the pharmacies who refused to fill prescriptions, etc.
The puzzle pieces fit together seamlessly when you care to look. They weren't being driven by science, they were driven by politics. Same reason they dismissed natural immunity.

Agree strongly. Pandemics have always left culture wars in their wake, though. In 1918 there were mask riots and an “Anti-Mask League” in San Francisco. Cholera sparked political violence across Europe in the 1800's, smallpox vaccination fights were framed as battles for liberty and had there been message boards it would've been even worse.
COVID isn’t unique in that way. It’s just our turn. The hopeful part is the noise eventually fades and societies eventually tend to come out stronger, with better public health and new norms. But that's if we don't get sidetracked with charlatans.
