Reading comprehension...

Those are the NUMBERS from 2017-2018

Those are estimated numbers. They also said an estimated 960,000 were hospitalized and an estimated 49 million Americans had the flu. Do you believe em? I don’t.

Dipshit, that’s 60k with full social distancing. We don’t shut everything down to mitigate seasonal flu.

Dipshit, Japan did far better without the Draconian measures the US implemented.

And NYC area skewed the US numbers. Tokyo is easily as congested as NYC. Tokyo just handled sanitary practices better - far better

I think we all know the answer to this question.

Wouldn't the flu numbers be down as well?

This is my thought as well. If social distancing is having that big of an effect on the projections (and I’m not saying it’s not), shouldn’t we see a stark decline in regular flu numbers also?

Exactly. We have mitigated it down to the point of the flu, a virus that people have to badgered to even get a shot for, only going to cost us $6T.

In other words, we have mitigated the situation down to something we essentially just accept on an annual basis. This was never going to be a more than 1M death event that was only stopped because people stayed home for 2 weeks. We overreacted and will pay dearly for it.

And let's get one other thing straight, they said social distancing was not to help the spread, that was inevitable, social distancing was to flatten the curve so we wouldn't over load the hospitals all it once, they wanted the Chinese Flu to be spread over months so proper care could be administered as everyone was slowly infected.

Exactly. I'm tired of hearing about how social distancing saved lives. That was never the intent. Since there is no immunity, you are simply delaying the inevitable.

So how in the hell did the flu not diminish, too. With all this social distancing?

And you thought you had made an awesome point

Wrong
Flattening the curve was intended to keep hospitals open for new patients. Patients who could get treatment, and possibly cured.
If hospitals are overwhelmed and care isn’t available more would die. If 1 million people get sick and need hospitalization in six months that’s better than 1 million getting sick and needing hospitalization in two months.

During the period of distancing flu would diminish also, but keep in mind the flu season began in October and ends in April.

A few weeks back I tried google searching when the exact date was that Trump implemented the China travel ban and I could not find it anywhere. I went 4-5 pages deep on various google searches and couldn’t find anything.

Your googling skills are poor.

Probably because we haven’t been distancing since October. Of all the moronic responses here, this might take the cake.

And the first case of corona was diagnosed Dec 1st. And yet the US didn't social distance until March 15th

Well, there's a vaccine for the flu, which many people get, to keep you from getting it. That definitely helps.

So you think that corona was transmitting at the same rate as the flu in December?
