This is one of those stories where the reporter interviews a couple of current/former deputy assistant U.S. attorneys unconnected to the case and gives them anonymous attribution ("former and current U.S. officials") to give the story some extra pop because "former assistant USA from the middle district of Wisconsin..." won't really get past your editor.
