quote:Charlotte Catholic High School is a very strong academic program. It's probably on par with St. Paul's in Covington. It is also a school with an appropriately strong Catholic bent. Charlotte is not a generally unreasonable place ideologically -- from any ideological perspective. As such, this story with no direct quotes attributed to the speaker, wreaks to high heaven.

At Catholic High in the 90's, your actual religion as well as how long you had attended a catholic school were both key determinants into whether or not you got in. There were some exceptions but not many. The only exceptions I knew was the occasional Protestant. I did not meet a Jew until I interned in college and I did not meet a Muslim until 2009, about a decade after I graduated from Catholic.

This is just beyond absurd. People simply don't want their sins to be called sins anymore, and they sure as hell don't want to feel guilty about them.
In fact, not only do people not want to feel guilty about their sins, they want their sins to be celebrated.
On a side note, it sounds like Charlotte Catholic needs to do a better job of teaching Church doctrine to all those petition-signers and their parents.

Catholic schools kicked the clergy to the side years ago and now are governed by the laity. The laity represents the views of Catholics in the US and world wide that wish to impose their views which are in fact in violation of church doctrine on so many levels against the church. For this reason Biden and Pelosi are able to claim themselves as being Catholic. They are in for a big surprise one day which really can't some soon enough.

Father Mike Collins at MBS used to preach about this all the time.

Shortly after I posted this, I got into a discussion about with my wife (a bleeding heart lib if ever there was one). She proved my point.
She doesn't consider homosexuality a sin, BUT, and here it comes, she DOES think that polygamy is a sin and many other sexual deviancies.
When asked why, her reply is that God made homosexuals that way, so their behavior is not sinful. My reply to that was, "Well, didn't God create the polygamists, too?"
Her answer, "No, polygamy is learned. No one is born thinking he/she wants multiple spouses. Besides, that isn't how God intended it."
Could have knocked me over with a feather.
She also pointed to the Pope's recent declaration about not judging homosexuals, and says that shows the Church now condones the behavior. Again, I was speechless.
She is coming around on illegal immigration, though. Sees the damage first-hand in her schools (she's a teacher).

Why should the school be offended? You ask a representative of the Church to speak and she speaks Church doctrine. Only makes sense.

ETA: just kidding about the lol. I went to Mandeville High we were cross town rivals with St. Paul's. I went to summer camps at St. Paul's; it was an awesome experience.

"Is a homosexual person born that way, or do they develop that way? There is no real answer," Hains said. "She was presenting more the side of the argument that homosexuality is something that develops in someone. They are not born with it."
This doesn't make any sense.
The parents send their children to a Catholic High School yet are offended when their children are taught Catholic doctrine regarding homosexuality.
It appears to me that Loony Lefties are going to claim they are offended everytime someone expresses a personal opinion that disagrees with their own opinion.
Then they will accuse that person of making a hate speech and try to get that person fired from their job in order to intimidate anyone else who has the same opinion not to express it.

I went to a catholic high in the early 80s and was one of the few, 2-3%, that wasn't Catholic. Only a few kids were obviously devout; most of us were trying to see how far we could get with girls, experimenting with alcohol (and some with drugs), playing sports or just trying to fit in. Either way, we expected to hear Catholic doctrine, and even felt a little guilty wherever we fell short. Gayness in any form was shunned/ostracized back then.
My kids went to Catholic schools and graduated in 2008 and 2010. Gayness was much more acceptable socially by then, but the church's stance had not changed a bit. My kids both understood the church's stance as well as the fact that you can accept a homosexual as a friend/neighbor without issue.
Part of tolerance is accepting the views of others whether it is opposed to your view or not; liberals need to learn this.
