Shreveport residents who are single parents with an income below 120% of the Federal Poverty Level.
That would be 1/3 the population of Shreveport. And only 110 win the new welfare lottery. Yeah, that's gonna work out swell.

100% of them will be of a specific demographic.

How do you live on 660 a month?
Easy, you get a free phone, free food, disability and you live in a house that was paid off generations ago.
Plus dont forget those credits for the kids you have, even if you have no income.

Out of those eligible, 110 families will be selected to receive $660 a month for a year.
So more like "not-at-all universal basic income."

UBI works.

Finland ran a two-year universal basic income study in 2017 and 2018, during which the government gave 2000 unemployed people aged between 25 and 58 monthly payments with no strings attached.
Now do that for 330 million and come back with your findings.
quote:
The study compared the employment and well-being of basic income recipients against a control group of 173,000 people who were on unemployment benefits.
Between November 2017 and October 2018, people on basic income worked an average of 78 days, which was six days more than those on unemployment benefits.
Oh man, imagine if every american only had to work 78 days a year.
Want to know how to tank this country and the world economy? Put Americans on UBI.

Corrected headline: Shreveport has enough money to just give away almost $1M in a year.
Yep. Or,
“The City of Shreveport Investing $1M in illegal drug market.”

My favorite is how the city needs bond measures approved or they don't have the money to fix streets, pipes or fire stations, but somehow they have the money on hand for this shite.....come the frick on

Didn't NOLA have a scaled down version of this?

universal basic income
So we’re all getting it?

Oh... so we’re not all getting it?
quote:
Applicants must be Shreveport residents who are single parents with an incomes below 120% of the federal poverty level. The program defines a single parent as a mother, father, stepparent, grandparent, caregiver or legal guardian with a school-age child. The resident must be functionally single, whether married or unmarried. If unmarried, the resident cannot be living with a partner.
So the same people that qualify for all the other free stuff? That doesn’t sound very universal.

When I was 17 and had just graduated from HS, I got laid off and got my 1st check from unemployemnt admin. My dad had found it in the mail before I did. When i walked in the house he slapped me upside the head and said "we do not take handouts in this house".
Laughing now thinking about it, but man what a valuable life lesson.

So do they get more than elderly on social security or are the elderly part of the program?
Because I know a lot of old folks struggling to cut it on SS right now.
