I just can’t wrap my head around people dropping that kind of coin for health insurance. I guess it’s a reasonable premium if you’re insuring a battleship or some other type of ocean going vessel, but not for medical insurance. You’re talking insurance rates that equal or surpass the median income in the country. It’s not insurance after a certain point, it’s just legalized theft.

JHC how are you people paying so much for healthcare?

I have Tricare, but I can cover my entire family with medical and dental for $200/month. Great providers, too.

You baws need to figure something out.

He’ll feel differently when he’s old and needs chemo but the state won’t pay for it bc he’s of no value anymore.

I don’t understand why anyone in their right mind would pay this. Even if you have money to literally flush down the toilet, why would you throw away this kind of money every month? Stick it in the bank for medical emergencies, but don’t give it to some company who claims they are insuring you, because they most certainly are not. An insurance premium should not rival a house payment every month

Healthcare is also cheaper via paying cash as opposed to through insurance, odd hmm?

What happens to your healthcare when that single payer is over $20 trillion in debt? Throw in unfunded liabilities and that number grows to $100 trillion - $200 trillion. I'll hang up and listen.

If you are a w-2 guy then I believe they can withhold the fine from your tax return.

You should look into health share plans. I'm surprised there are not more threads about those.

I've never used one but have heard third hand that some of them work exactly the way they are supposed to.

Liberty HealthShare

Christian Health Care Ministry

These two are where I would start. About 25%-50% of what a typical major medical plan cost.

Single payer? Be careful what you ask for.

The gov't screws up everything else.

What makes you think they do any better with health care?

I have tricare standard it cost me zero in a monthly premium and 3k in deductibles. I carry vision and dental through my employer which is on $150 a month. That is the benefit of retiring from the military

Create another fed agency the size of the IRS. Sounds brilliant.

Have you seen the VA or the old Charity system in LA? That's single payer. You will wait for treatments that are often denied by people with barely a high school education reading from some non-individualized formula.

Single payer in this country will never work for 2 reasons

1. Single payer in the US means the burden for paying for all of this falls on just people that pay taxes. Half this country doesn’t pay or pays next to nothing in taxes

2. Single payer has to get rid of insurance companies completely. Cannot be any inefficiency between patients and doctors.

Just a side note, single payer is an unfolding disaster in Europe with the influx on refugees that don’t work or pay into the system. PRIVATE health insurance has taken off in the UK. There is a reason for this.

The only way the IRS can enforce the individual mandate penalty is if you are due a tax refund at the end of the year. They then take the penalty out of the refund. All you have to do is adjust your personal exemptions. Make it to where you owe $0 or have to pay a little at the end of the year.

It will take 20-30 years, and a single payer system is inevitable since current system is broken and people need time to accept the failure.

That's exactly what I was thinking myself.

Conservatism in Washington is dead and no one in the Republican party will ever stand up to the Liberal/Progressive machine. I'm scared it's inevitable.

Not to mention the fact that fewer folks will shoulder 250k plus debt for a ~80k salary.

edit: Not to mention the great liberal bastion of hope state California tried this and realized they couldn't even pay for it.
