It depends on where in the process the candidate steps down. The link above explains how it is done.

DNC gets to chose if he’s selected as primary and then steps down or dies?
My understanding is that if he bows out and the DNC determines that there's insufficient time to conduct a primary, then the party big wigs just get to select their candidate. That's how I think they're going to do it.

Threaten to take him and his family down unless he steps aside... He returns from Thanksgiving and "after talking to my family and assessing whats important to me, I've decided to spend my remaining years out of the spotlight and enjoying my 6 (maybe 7) grandkids"

But that might be past several state deadlines to get on the ballot.

They changed the rules for voting last time out. No reason to think they would not do it again

“The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is also authorized to select the party’s nominee in the event that the winner of the convention cannot run. This is spelled out in the charter of the Democrat Party. However, since DNC members are awarded to states according to the size of the states, there would be no adjustments.”
In the link it explains how the Secretaries of State can revise the ballots and different points of the nominating process.

They'll time it properly to make sure their selected candidate is on there. My guess is either Newsome or Big Mike.

Have him step back so he can issue a pardon to Hunter.
