Not wearing a mask. Stay home if you’re scared of the flu...

They stop tree pollen in the spring when you're doing an early mowing. The pollen is only airborne because your mower is kicking it up.

They oversold the benefits of wearing a mask and now they are mad that lots of people won't get the vaccine. Well, some people are reasoning why should I inject experimental medical technology into my body when I can just keep wearing this thin little mask?

There’s not a single study out there that shows mask reduce the spread of Covid or any other virus. But there are quite a few studies that show detrimental! Including increasing CO2 which directly affects mental ability, especially in kids and elderly. all we need to do you is turn your head and cover your mouth when you cough and wash your hands, Just like your mom told you. This is a particular interest me as a Hospital doctor in direct care of hospitalized COVID patients.

Never heard a more succinct definition of 'science' in layman's language.

And this is the common sense understanding of science to anyone with a functioning/rational brain.

Well Done!!

No thinking person who knows anything about science will ever utter that phrase - it is left the sole province of propagandists.

No more informative that "black lives matter' or 'climate change'.

This, I know, that's why I used to wear it only when I mow.

Now I don't, either way it fricks me up.

Mowing large acreage in dry dusty environments kicks up a lot of particulate matter - I started wearing masks 3-4 years ago when I had to mow 3 acres of lawn/cut-over-brushland. I had COPD at the time and thought I didn't need to breath in particulates.

I did start wearing the mask when I went out in public because of the constant cough I had from the COPD - just didn't want other people in the grocery store to think I was coughing in their faces.

but that's about it. Never ever thought the mask was protecting ME from any virus - but it semi-effective in not spreading particulate matter that comes from a cough - whether from COPD, cold, or COVID. It has some benefit for protecting OTHERs, but minimal for the wearer.

Scientifically speaking. . .it's like trying to stop a mosquito with a chain-link fence

I assume the masks work about 5% for people wearing them for protection and about 15% for people wearing them to prevent spread from themselves to others.

Do others on this board agree?

I am sure progressives would think those percentages are much higher- but I haven't seen evidence of that.

So whatever that means in individual behavior - so be it.

What makes you think an aromatic compound is larger than a virus particles? Your "common sense" is just dead wrong. A Virus particle is much more complex. We are comparing micro-organisms with molecules, and assuming the molecules are larger???
Right.
But to layer on a bit more truth, a surgical mask is intended not to stop outflow of viral particles, but rather the respiratory droplets carrying them.

So the fart thesis would be better analogized by employing a wet fart as the premise.

We have not directly measured virus emission; nonetheless, our results strongly imply that mask wearing will reduce emission of virus-laden aerosols and droplets associated with expiratory activities, unless appreciable shedding of viable viruses on mask fibers occurs.

Nice.

So can anyone give me a specific scientific study that definitely states what benefits mask wearing has in the fight against Covid?

The closest I've found has been this.

The salient points are:

1. it states that N-95 masks are effective at stopping things as small as .3 microns

2. it states that the COVID size ranges from .06 to 1.4 microns

3. it states that at .3 microns Brownian Motion comes into play, which makes estimating capture at sizes of .3 microns and slightly smaller an issue but then an inverse begins to happen as you move away from that .3 limit

4. it hinges greatly on not only Brownian Motion but the hypothesis that COVID particles being breathed out at most often attached to larger particles which would indeed be captured by N-95 masks

In other words, it's just enough to say "maybe they work and maybe they don't" but fear mongers have clung to the former like Rose from Titanic clinging to her piece of wood paneling. The media and political classes have megaphoned this to the point where it's been distorted in the eyes of many to being (essentially) "wearing a mask is the primary way to defeat spreading COVID".
