What I was trying to say was if they had known government workers would not receive SS benefits why would they contribute.

Seems like the 3 million government workers shoulda known that their government pension would rule out any social security.

Life is about choices . Why would you penalize anyone who contributed to social security for all those years whether private or government.

Please use some common sense

Goblin,

give it a rest, your sounding very Low IQ and lacking any sort of critically thinking with your outlook on this.

it DOES NOT MATTER what path anyone took, IF YOU PAID INTO ANY SYSTEM, you should get your money back, PERIOD!!!

and i generally despise over 90% of Gov’t workers. but some are needed, very small portion.

but if they worked 10 years in private sector before or after and paid into SS, then they should get their money.

SS has been a ponzi scheme from the beginning. one of the FED RESERVES looks and spawn enforced onto us having our ancestors drink the cool aid, as it stands now, its bankrupt just like the country, all of our only hope is that DOGE & MAGA revamp EVERYTHING & cut the Banking Cartel Grips on the USA taxpayer and we RE-SET the entire system.

let’s hope for all our sakes, the DREAM TEAM can follow thru & Rinos get in line or get run over!

They paid in to SS for at least 40 quarters (10 years) from a job that required them to pay SS. Then they got a different job (like working for the state) which has it's own retirement so they don't pay SS while at that job.

You absolutely still pay OASDI taxes when you work for a state government even while paying into the pension system.

It you pay into social security you should get an RSDI payment. It’s supposed to be you paying for you. All taxation is theft but if you are forced to pay social security taxes but don’t get social security then that’s an even bigger tax theft.

Regardless, SS will crash down and no one will get paid - this will only expedite that crash.

you sound like a young punk that hasn't paid anything into SS and don't want to. I only hope one day you get to look at is like people who have paid in over 300k in a lifetime. I'm so sick of you young punks cheering on us older guys not getting SS. Karma is going to be fun, wish I was around to see it.

Good to know that you approve govt stealing money from your paycheck, then passing a law barring you from ever collecting it, when everyone else gets to file for their money at some point.

He does that because he is a young punk and probably never held much of a job, just waiting on a handout. He definitely doesn't know or understand the value of hard work.

Louisiana state employees are not eligible for Social Security (OASDI) benefits unless they have significant prior service with an employer that contributes to it. Louisiana is one of seven states that does not contribute to Social Security.

12 states the teachers don’t pay into social security.

Employees hired or rehired after 1986 have had to pay into Medicare though.

Edit.

If you are enrolled in a Louisiana State retirement plan (TRSL, LASERS, ORP, Deferred Compensation), you do not pay Social Security tax; however, if you were hired after April 1, 1986, you are required to pay the Medicare portion of the FICA tax (1.45% of your salary).

So somone who worked for themselves and paid 15percent tax for social security for most of their career should not receive anything back if they take a Govt job for a few years? I think they should receive what anyone else would receive that paid social security and at the same rate.

My father worked for a contractor flight training company for years and then was a safety director for the Army until he retired. Took a big pay cut initially for the stability, but rose quickly in civil service after cutting the aircraft accident rates dramatically.

But what if they paid into Social Security prior to getting a job with a guaranteed retirement? Should they get nothing? That's not fair.

The point of social security is to provide for people in their twilight years. It was never meant to be fair. Some will get free money, some get screwed. As such, people with pensions do not need their meager SS payments as they are already provided for in their old age.

If you want to be fair, the only real solution is to get rid of the pensions and make all government employees pay into social security.

If you want to get rid of SS and give everyone back their money, then let's do it. If you want to keep it, then someone has to lose. It's better if that is people who have pensions rather than those relying solely on SS.

This bill seems to be dying in the Senate. Unfortunate.

CONgress is 100% worthless. Just absolutely of little positive use in this country.

I worked in the private sector for over 14 years. I qualified for Social Security, and taught school in LA, for over 25 years. I draw my teacher retirement and half of my Social Security benefit monthly,

Social Security should have been privatized and put into the hands of those paying into it.

SS has a very bad return on investment. Had the money been invested in a stock index, the returns would have been several times what the SS skim pays.

I retired from a state job. Went on to work 20 years in private business. I was self-employed and paid $300,000 into SS. And YOU think I should get screwed? I think you are delusional or just jealous. Pay me what I earned or refund my SS.

Hard to understand how you can pay into SS but not get your full payout because you also work long enough to get a pension from a government agency.

You still paid the required amount to receive something back.

You should look at what your SS is if you stay in the private sector versus what your govt pension would be and and make the call to join the govt or not. .

Govt pensions are so lucrative because they factored in the lack of social security, its bullshite to try and claw back your SS.

Schumer vows a vote on the bill

quote:

Its supporters have expressed confidence that the bill, which passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support weeks back, would sail through the Senate with bipartisan support.

If passed, the bill would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) — rules that backers say have led to unfair reductions in benefits for some who have worked in public service.
