There will be a huge reduction in teachers as now districts are realizing they can be more effective fiscally with Tele services. You’ll see Intervention and paraprofessional positions slashed

Damn man, read the damn OP. I said at the end of the school year. You're a teacher and can't comprehend that? That's scary.

They aren’t?
I ask you to follow me on Monday then
You are ignorant on what some teachers are being required to do.
Monday schedule
2nd grade ADHD
2nd Grade Rad
4th Grade Conduct disorder
The afternoon is a group of HS who are High Level Autism students and then I have to go to homes of kids afterwords to deliver chromebooks
That has been my Monday since Mar 17
My “easy day” is Fridays where I have only 2 ADHD kids and just go get chromebooks so I can grade the kids work, because their parents are so poor they can’t get internet and they live out of town so can’t get to internet hotspots school set up
Today I was grading work and making lesson plans since all my kids have IEP so I can’t use a one lesson for all, I can copy some though. Plus I have to plan behavioral Interventions and those are individualized. But yeah I’m not working

If not teaching, I agree.
However, our grandchildren are having assignments and meeting as a class with their teachers every day via some internet gizmo magic...Fort Worth, Lubbock and Odessa

Bless their sole’s teachers should receive double the pay they get. Dealing with your kids all day maybe triple

At the end of the current school year, why not?
The vast majority of people in education are 10 month employees. They don’t get paid for the summer anyway. They may have 10 months of pay stretched out over 12 months but if you tried to suspend those payments, you’d be willfully breaching contracts.

My wife is still teaching
Posted on 4/11/20 at 6:42 pm to Homesick Tiger
Most of the teachers I know (the wife teaches) work on a 10-month pay scale. The teachers around here are working. They are doing virtual classrooms.
The money should already be allocated to pay them the rest of the school year.

This is stupid, my wife teaches and is working from home meeting all of her contractual obligations. Still creating lesson plans, grading papers, interacting with parents and students online.
She has to be virtually available during normal work hours and has to respond to admins and students with a very short period of time.
It is actually more work now because she has to create online content and send home packets for her kids without internet.
Better place to save would have been not sending relief checks to those on social security and disability because they haven't lost anything at this point.
I am sure it varies by state and city, we are in Colorado. Sorry your kids' school isn't taking this seriously.

Teachers only get paid in the summer if they elect to spread their payment over 12 months. They are (usually) 9 month employees, and they have the option to receive their salary spread over just the school year.

And several on here have pointed out that that teachers are 9-10 month employees on their contracts and the payment for the work done till the end of the school year is simply divided out into 12 pay periods. So what you’re proposing is suspending their pay for work that they’ve already done.

Not sure if it is a quality or quantity of work with your school, but schools are mostly taking the be really easy and gentle right now with work as they believe the kids are either experiencing real trauma because family members are dying or family works in hospitals or secondary trauma because of all the news.
If you want more or something different or have some criticism let the teachers know,

I mean, they’ve taken people who are accustomed to working in person with live classes and they’ve told them to now do it online with zero training. Some teachers I’m sure are better than others but many are probably not as technically inclined and it’s hard to blame them for that.

Okay. Sounds like you should get an 80% reduction in salary.
