He was maced a LOT and beaten on an icy road after not having any commands to disobey.
He did a very good job keeping still on his hands and knees while they beat him and took the legal pistol off his exposed waist.

You think if he wasn’t on his knees, and instead full prone during the beating, that they wouldn’t have shot him when they saw the gun in his waist?
There’s almost no reason to believe they’d have spared him. He WAS in a very controlled and normal position. With his waist exposed. Legs not frantically moving. I mean he’s on his hands and knees. From what we can see he’s pretty much cooperating.
I think you need to review the film.

One can curl up while lying on their side. He did the version where you curl up but remain on your knees. He was trying to shield himself, while blind most likely, from the blows. Why would he have to be on his side to curl up? He was in a PERFECTLY acceptable position.
