Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of Islamist group CAIR Minnesota, released a video telling protesters not to listen to groups that advised against countering the Minneapolis event organized by anti-Islam activist Jake Lang.
Hussein stated that he helped organize the counterprotest. He encouraged Muslims and Somalis not to attend if they might be unable to control themselves and act violently, saying he instead wanted white "allies" to take the lead. Lang was grabbed and pulled down from a ledge and beaten by a mob. Minneapolis Police appeared to stay away even though they were aware of the event.
