They have a silent agreement with Beijing to let them take Taiwan back after we move our advanced chip mfg back home.

No doubt. Plus, China’s power has peaked and is declining. They are on their way to being a back-bench nation, and they know it. Their population is imploding, their real estate bubble, which is extraordinary, is going to burst. The US and Europe are cutting off all of their industrial espionage, which is almost the only way they “innovate”. And western companies are backpedaling to disengage with China.
Their economy is teetering on collapse, and they cannot maintain themselves in power with a bad economy. And what do governments generally reach for when in duress? Irredentism and xenophobia. Combine that with the chance to an invaluable territory to their empire, and they will find it hard to resist.
This is why we must continue to arm Taiwan. It should be bristling with weapons.
