Fine - legalize pot but dude, there's way more to life than smoking dope...

This might be difficult for you to understand but a lot of people that want it legalized don't smoke it. Myself included.

No disagreements here. You won't find a more staunch proponent of the legalization of marijuana and prostitution than Vacherie Saint.

The right needs to shed the molted skin of evangelical neoconservatism and embrace classic social liberalism with conservative fiscal/economic/trade policy.

My issue with decriminalizarion of marijuana has nothing to do with the drug itself, but all of the down stream problems.

How do you test for being under the influence at a traffic stop or accident?

Now, it’s an automatic slam dunk because it’s a blood test with a maximum floor value and the presence over the level is a positive. Now what?

The deal with state decriminialization is that you still have the federal overarching mandate that helps cover many of these holes in testing.

Think of all the issues from a workman comp standpoint. How do you write underwriting from a insurance and liability stand point?

Develop an on-site test that has a legitimate rapid answer, and I’m fine with the idea, but until then it creates more problems than it’s worth.

It’s a states rights issue

I have no problem with him coming out in favor but I don’t want it done by executive order or at the federal level.

Let the states decide.

I've read that there is a breath test for it now. All of the other issues you pointed put can be handled the same way employers handle alcohol consumption on the job.

I would agree that if someone votes trump solely due to legalization of this, they’re probably a loser.

The current DWI/DUI laws will suffice I think.

Even today, when a state decides it is still federally illegal. If they wanted they could go shut down every business involved in it in various states and arrest everyone.

I know people that are highly successful that smoke regularly. Computer scientists, attorneys, small businesses owners. You're just making yourself sound stupid.

Which is why the federal prohibition on all drugs but particularly marijuana needs to end.

Try to imagine the political impact of Trump using the current moment to embrace legalizing marijuana as a way to reduce opportunities for cops to harass people after Dems didn’t include it in their police reform bill (& Biden opposes the policy).

give the people what they want, create a massive new investment and economic growth sector, and take the hammer of pot arrests out of the policemens tool belt

Not to mention literally opening a new industry in the vats majority of the country would certainly help create jobs when we are looking at stabilized unemployment of around 10% when all is said and done.

I've been saying Louisiana should do this for that exact reason. Create jobs and generate some tourism dollars and demand.

It is really easy. You repeal the federal prohibition. Trump proposes and supports repeal. Congress either does or does not vote to do so. If it does, he takes the credit. If it doesn’t, the legislative body gets the blame. You make it clear that the sale, importation, possession, and use is a matter for the individual states to regulate and tax. DEA, DOJ and FBI don’t need to waste assets anymore on enforcement. Cleans up the financial muddle and banking in those states where it’s currently legal and if a majority of voters in a given state don’t want to legalize it, it’s a state issue, not a federal one.

I don't use any illegal drugs, but we do need to quit spending billions in the war on drugs.

1) Send that money elsewhere to rehab/free dope clinics and burial programs for the addicts.

2) Stronger enforcement of our borders to prevent importation along with stiff life imprisonment for smugglers.
