You're not a true conservative since you don't believe in limited government. You think government agents should be able to use lethal force anytime they choose.

context my man - context

we were talking about what IS - not what might have been.

The mental institutions are not available - unfortunately, the cops have to deal with the situation they FIND.

I know of no other details of this other than what is in this thread at this point. Let facts be the determining factor.

But - just to say - the cops should have done something else now, because 30 years ago, somebody else did something we dont like now - is just stupid logic.

Yeah apparently some here would be cool with me taking out my Px4 and blowing my little cousin's head off if he throws his toys at me next time I visit.

You didn't even respond to the part about how this used to be done non-violently quite regularly when we had mental asylums.

I’ll respond to it, because I was there and voting. You are substantially right that we used to handle this with mental institutions, but that got waaaaay out of hand. Have you ever seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest? That was a critique of the system you want to bring back.

We went too far in getting rid of the mental health institutions, but they were so fricked up it was probably necessary. Now we need to reinstate them but with many more guardrails and less latitude for government to medicate people.

They found a 46 year old woman who any one of them along could have physically taken with little to no effort.

And shot her INSIDE HER HOME, from OUTSIDE her home. Beyond a close window, locked door, and a wall.

She couldn't have posed less physical threat to them if she'd been in another state.

And all 3 shot her. It's not remotely defensible.

When the standard is, "officer safety........ANYTHING that migth hurt me justifies discharging my gun"...........

On the subject of mental institutions, I really don't know the right answer.

Clearly, there was merit to the complaints about the "warehousing" of people. Then again, almost all of the people who used to be "warehoused" are now homeless.

Did we replace bad with worse?

Should she have been shot? Maybe. Maybe not. But it was her own actions that created the situation that lead to her demise. It's never a good idea to taunt & attack someone with a loaded weapon.

Probably because it was not worth a response.

From the VERY LIMITED clip and info available, this appears to be an inexcusable mistake by cops. I'm willing to withhold judgement pending more information though.

Regardless, why don't you detail how this would have been handled in the 1970's?

It wasn't a mistake.

Cops nationwide are trained that "officer safety is paramount" and thus, ANY risk of ANY injury to them justifies shooting.

Under such training, results like this are completely predictable.

Are you conservative? If so, why are the police somehow the only "special" government agents who get a complete free pass?

Literally the most dangerous of ALL government agents, and they are the one group of government agents where we seem to forget why we are conservatives.

I know exactly how it went. One of my friends has an uncle that worked at a mental institution in west TN back then. They literally had a human sized net that they would charge and wrap the person up in. Once secured they'd be injected with a sedative and hauled away.

You know what's funny?

If the story in the OP was exactly the same, only the government agents at the door were IRS agents, or the FBI,
every conservative on this board would be out for blood.

Come on fellow conservatives. Pull the blue blinders off!

Lmao. Bless your heart. I'm a conservative. You are not. A conservative believes in limited government. That includes agents of the government.
