It still blows my mind that when smoking was invented, nobody worth a damn thought the whole thing through.

The human lungs and heart are designed to inhale and exhale air/oxygen, not smoke and the toxic and poisonous chemicals that come along with it.

It's such a simple concept that should've been clear as day when someone tossed around the idea of cigarettes.

It's a tragedy it took well over a century and a half to properly and adequately negatively stigmatize smoking tobacco to make a real dent in the smoking rate.

I'm older and, thankfully, although I enjoy about 2 cigars a year, never smoked. My mother is 97 and has been smoking daily since she was 20.

Otherwise, I am watching reruns of Perry Mason and The Twilight Zone and am astonished at the amount of smoking in those shows. Never thought of it before but our culture really shows the difference. Virtually every scene is about lighting up a cigarette.

It's been clear as day for years, that the worst meat for the human body is bacon.

People do what they want and enjoy.

Bacon doesn't have addicting chemicals that keep you coming back for more though.

It has salt, sugar, and fat. Bacon is one of the most addictive foods. LINK

That's irrelevant when it comes to personal freedom. Either you are allowed to make choices for yourself or you aren't.

Threads like this just show how similar conservatives and progressives really are. They both want to prevent other people from doing things just because they themselves don't like it.

Yes, vaping is still bad for you but vaping is considerably safer than smoking. If it's between vaping or nothing, then obviously don't vape. For people trying to quit smoking, vaping is a safer alternative and can help in smoking cessation.

one hit of a vape pen has significantly more nicotine than a drag on a cigarette.

Nicotine in and of itself isn't dangerous and isn't going to kill you in small doses. What makes smoking bag for you is the combustion of the thousands of chemicals in tobacco.

Vape pens are in no way benign
No one is making that argument
But vaping is objectively safer than smoking and there is no way around that.

Grandfather smoked a pipe several times a day for 70+ years. Lived well into his 90's.

I've never smoked.

We can say the same thing about alcohol.

Why you people drinking?

Plus, how many vehicle accidents are caused by drinking and driving? Deaths? Liver disease?

If you smoke a pipe several times a day but do not expose your body to the same toxins we do today such as excess salt, high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, preservatives, antibiotic and steroid infused chicken, beef and pork, and being sedentary for 85% of the day......

You might be fine puffing a stogie after meals.

Nicotine just isn't that bad for you. The bad part of smoking is...the smoke.

I will agree that we should continue to gather evidence on vaping, but the poster I was responding to casually alleged that vaping was as bad as smoking. Sorry, it just isn't.

My church started this Man’s Prayer Breakfast thing. Most of the guys eat the shite out of bacon and sausage. One guy has already had bypass surgery, swear to God,ate 12 slices of bacon, went back and got 12 more slices and took leftover home.Another guy who had bypass surgery and his ejection fraction is 30 ate a pile of bacon and went back and got another pile.
9 men in my Sunday school class and I’m the only one that hasn’t had bypass surgery, several of the have had subsequent angioplasties to open their bypass grafts.
They just don’t get it,heart disease is so common people think it’s normal.I keep my mouth shut, they would probably get pissed if I tried to educate them.Lot’s of people do.
As far as cigars I don’t get it,they just stink. One Dr. used to smoke one before he came to work in the morning,I couldn’t stand to be around him,the cigar stench was nauseating early in the morning.Pipe smoke at least generally smells ok.

I suspect that forcing ANY foreign substance down into your lungs (be it smoke or water vapor) is not a healthy choice.
