True story...I saw Red Farmer pulling his van and car trailer into the Shell station on Allison-Bonnett Drive just last week, presumably on his way to the dirt track at Talledega. Farmer is still racing as an octogenarian.

I’ve lived close by there since the ‘70’s. I delivered cokes to the Allison’s place on Church Street. Hung out in the WinnDixie parking lot with Davey. I really,really hate what they’ve done to NASCAR. But truthfully, the “Car of Tommorrow” crap is what did them in with me. Anyway, good to see another west Jefferson on here.

The Alabama gang and the Allisons in particular were of course well know and local celebrities but they never adopted a “celebrity” lifestyle. Even after Davey rose to fame and NASCAR was transitioning to a corporate behemoth, the entire Allison clan remained humble people with no airs.

Nascar has sucked since they stopped running moonshine during the day. I'd rather watch a sport where the driver tried to outrun a pursuer than going around in a circle for hours.

Just a reminder...Petty ran for office as a GOP candidate and had to bow out because he actually bumped someone on the interstate going too slow in the left lane - 24 years ago. Not that I don't buy into the sentiment; he might be a little too full of himself or unhinged.

Kind of like blue state denizens moving into nice southern states and cities and ruining them.
