I agree that the fight will damage both and should have been avoided.
But it made more sense for the 43yo Desantis to back Trump and avoid the fight. I also think this would have been the smart play for Desantis future.
I think the establishment people behind Desantis convinced him to not worry about Trump because Trump will be gone by the time the actual voting starts.
On that we will see. Otherwise it makes zero sense for Desantis to enter this death match with Trump. One in which he is no guarantee to win and one which will damage him so badly he will have no shot in the general.
