Property tax is the most regressive, hostile tax a government can impose. It should be illegal.

Well, that's dumb in places like FL and TX, who don't charge income tax but use property tax for revenues.

It's only dumb if you lack imagination.

I don’t think renters should be charged property tax because they get nothing when they move out
Renters still pay property taxes, just in an indirect way.

Property taxes and insurance are expenses that the landlord factors in when setting their rent prices.

Don’t seem fair. We pay for schools too. Haven’t had a child in school in 17 years.
Same for us but I don't mind contributing to good schools (ours are pretty good) as need future leaders with a sound education. Think of someone our age who haven't had kids in school that long plus they paid taxes plus tuition for private schools K-12.

97% of my property tax goes to a high school close to me, not roads and services. I don't have kids or grandkids here so are paying for services I don't use???? This is not a fair tax. Hope Trump passes no property taxes but doubt he can do this.

What a shallow take. The property owner passes on the expense to the renter.

So its dumb for nearly everyone to have skin in the game? Right now its only property/home owners.

Its shocking with the amount of people in this thread who don’t realize that renters indirectly pay property taxes because their landlord factors that cost into what they set the rent at.

Landlords aren’t being charitable to their tenants by just paying a few grand a year in property taxes without accounting for that expense in the monthly rent price.

The exact opposite, actually. You must not be a conservative.

You need me to show you “receipts” that clue you in to the fact that property taxes are passed down to all renters?

Like I said, you are dumb as hell if you couldn’t figure that out on your own.

Thats an assumption. May be true in some cases and others not.

Furthermore why not take all doubt out of it and move to a flat sales tax? What would be your argument against that?

I'll buy that land I've been wanting. Only reason I haven't is because I don't know for sure I would ever do anything with it and I don't want to have to pay taxes on it and maintain it.
this x1000. the land grab would be off the charts if property taxes were removed.

I have stated my position on this issue here many times.

I will just add that it sure would be awesome if people all across this country had the right to own a house or some land. It is a dream I have for myself and this country to make property ownership Legal. I doubt home ownership will ever be allowed where I live in Louisiana.

Everything in life is temporary. The things Biden did are still being undone, the things Trump is doing maybe be undone. Change is always inevitable. I live in a high property tax state so i'm all for this but i have a feeling the town/city/state would come up with very creative ways to nickel and dime us to death. Car registration would probably skyrocket among other things.

Any landlord that doesn’t pass property taxes down to renters is a financial moron.
