Mainstream Democrats already do this.
For the last 10 years, most people supporting complete legalization have been Republicans (main stream and leadership).
Dunno why everyone seems to think legalization is a Democrat platform. It's not.
If it was up to them, they would make it somewhat legal but create all kinds of rules and regulation around it.

Correct. This, and just about everything else come to think of it, is something they claim to be champions of, only reality is exactly opposite. The last folks in office authored the crime bill that gave people 25 years for growing a single plant and forfeiture of assets. These people are entirely corrupt and wicked.

This is exactly what would happen.
Because, populism.

think there are valid concerns regarding how potent THC is now, but still, it’s not as bad as alcohol
Maybe, but what is to be done about it? It's not like we can start telling people to not grow their plants to be as healthy as possible. As with everything else, if you're too stoned to drive, don't drive. Personally I prefer potent. I don't use that often and when I do it's because I'd be taking ibuprofen without it. That shite is hard on your liver.

I’m really just talking about younger people/kids who are ripping high thc vapes all day everyday. They’re going to lose their minds at a high rate
Posted on 8/13/25 at 3:22 pm to GreatLakesTiger24
Yeah, I get your point there. A lot of people use that stuff all day every day.
Oh well, their life to lead. You can't stop people from using drugs ultimately and at least it isn't going to kill them like fentanyl is currently doing by the thousands.

he has more people responsive to his messaging than your hero Obama, and many, many others, according to his recent polling?

I don't think you would get this. They would just likely ignore talking about it altogether. Most of them like weed, but they would never give Trump credit, publicly. JMO

You know the alcohol lobby will be working overtime at the state level to make sure it's still prohibited. Red states will be bombarded with propaganda that only boomers would fall for
Oklahoma legalized it for medical use. Surprised the hell out of everyone. An odd coalition of Boomers and libertarians came together at the right time.
Big Pharma is a big opponent.

It should just be regulated by states. That’s basically where we are now, but fed regulations just make it more complicated and less efficient.

It needs to be unscheduled, this wont do shite for the working man.

Well most states have already moved to decriminalize it but it's a problem because it's still criminal at the federal level. Reclassifying it would help to move the reluctant states remaining to decriminalize it as well.
Another thing this would do would be to make it accessible to veterans who use the VA for their health care allowing many people with persistent pain not have to take pharmaceutical pills every day to make it through the day.
Would be a huge deal really.
The biggest thing I can think of is financial. Proceeds from the sale of THC products cannot be held in banks because the Feds could take those ill-gotten gains with no recourse. It's a big business right now in securing those assets for THC businesses and if anything keeping it out of the banking system makes it more susceptible to criminal influence.

I love making Progressives on social media lose it when I point out that it is Trump's 2016 farm bill that pretty much is the catalyst for a lot of red states starting to allow THC to be sold in some form.

Good. The fact that weed is in the same category as heroin and meth is actually a tier lower is peak clown world. This switch is a long time coming.
Until the alcohol lobby cut a deal with his hotels and he backs off, that is.

I love weed but I believe there was a strong overcorrection from anti marijuana attitudes and education of the 50s-90s or 2000s
