Aside from:

1- It’s always been this way!
2- Our friends won’t like us anymore!

Are there any legitimate reasons why DJT shouldn’t expect Canada or Western European nations to afford the United States the respect and fair deals that one would reasonably expect any nation to reasonably extend to another nation it has regarded as a “long time friend and ally”?

I think America did more than its part in greatly helping to secure and advance the welfare of others in the post WWII decades.

I know who owns it, doesn't mean I have to like our country selling land to another country and then, leasing it back to the US.

Just thought it would be fun to blow up.

The manufactured angst against Canada is really perplexing.

And by the way, Detroit metro benefits massively from Canadians working in the US and commuting. Not sure what possible benefit there will be from refusing to open a new bridge.

Jointly, with the State of Michigan. Canada paid for it, so they will be collecting the tolls.

Wait, you really believe that China will replace America as Canada’s primary trading partner?

I cited a very specific commodity and the issues behind a well-established pricing disparity.

For that case and that reason, China has already become (last year) the biggest customer for their oil.

Your reading comprehension has failed you. Notice the use of relative descriptions, not absolute. It was better than the previous but that doesn't make it good enough for long term goals.

Wow. Impressive.

Trump negotiated the USMCA during his first term. This is what he said about it.

The USMCA was always meant to be a stepping stone to separate bilateral trade agreements with Mexico and Canada. Unluckily for the Canadians, Trump had a sabbatical and will set up the new agreements. He will not renegotiate the USMCA. He will let it lapse. It's masterful really.

take the time to read this

quote:

Going all the way back to the replacement of NAFTA, with the USMCA, President Trump always said he did not favor multilateral trade deals with multiple countries; instead, he preferred bilateral free trade agreements.

As a result, the USMCA -or CUSMA as said in Canada- is not in alignment with a bilateral free trade agreement, and the conflicted differences between trade with Mexico and trade with Canada are an outcome of this dynamic.  The solution is simply to eliminate the multilateral in favor of the bilateral approach.  This is the objective of President Trump as expressed.

There is zero leverage on the Canadian side of the trade negotiation, zero.
