Lockheed Martin, RTX (Raytheon), Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, and Boeing—received a combined $771 billion in Pentagon contracts between 2020 and 2024. In the most recent full fiscal year, they alone accounted for approximately 30% of all Department of Defense contract obligations.
In the 2023-2024 election cycle they contributed $43 million to federal candidates and committees, with top recipients including members of the House Armed Services.
The 1960's are calling your name, Hippie.

The poster said that the MIC doesn’t have as much influence as it did before 1993. They received $76B in defense contracts that year, equivalent to $140B today.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Well we can chill out for a bit. Nothing is going to happen until Ford arrives in theater. Which gives Russia and more importantly Chyna time to supply Iran with advanced weapons which they think will give us a nasty little surprise.

Clinton slashed defense spending so he could spend more on social programs. We have found out in the last 3 years how much our stock of arms is bare. Defense factories were closed across the US during Clinton.
Notice to all old hippies. The world doesn't give a crap about Peace, Love and Bobby Sherman, or your Flower Power magazines for teen and preteen girls

quote:Does this relate to whether the MIC has more influence today than it did in 1993? That is what I was responding to. Someone said it didn’t, I provided numbers that say that it does.

The tempo has fluctuated day to day, but it appears the move is not yet complete. Last year's air defense move required at least 115 flights.

The focus on THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) and Patriot systems is critical. These are not offensive weapons used to strike a target; they are "shields" used to intercept incoming ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft.
A military rarely initiates an offensive strike without first ensuring its own bases and allies are protected from the inevitable counter-retaliation. If the U.S. or an ally were planning a strike on Iran, they would first move these "shields" into place to catch the missiles Iran would likely fire in response.
Historically, when the "shield" is fully set (the 115-flight mark mentioned in the post), the diplomatic window usually closes, and the risk of a "spark" leading to open conflict reaches its peak.
