Its a terrible idea in this era to plan on having to depend on Canada going forward.

What do we do? They are in NATO but they don't want to play? Raise them tariffs. And hammer the Swedes if they get in between us. It almost sounds like a Russian plan.

Sounds like your advocating Soviet type control of their puppet states.

Probably, but we cant rely and shouldnt rely on other countries for this.

When America First was about the USA, and not our global interests, MAGA felt the same way

The way globalist communists and muslims are taking over our allies, we should probably be a lot more restrictive with our military equipment. Of course that doesnt help congress' pocket book so nobodys stopping it any time soon.

I'm fine with this. Canada has the autonomy to do whatever they want. I'm sure the existing contract has an exit fee that Canada will have to pay to signal their virtue.

The liberal or labor party or whatever they are in Canada do not think they will ever lose another election. And they may not. I wouldn't mind cutting ties to them and let them saddle up to Europe. Should they need help it is a five hour flight across the pond and few have any aircraft carriers.

Sounds good on a message board but the truth is we would have no choice but to defend them, and they know it. We can’t let China or Russia take over Canada.

frick Canada.

Back in the Biden years, a Canadian company signed a multibillion dollar deal with Joe for a shitload of electric school buses; turns out to be a bad deal due to insufficent range and multiple breakdowns. Company declares bankruptcy and no go of the US trying to recoup their money.

Now they want to renege on a contract to buy US warplanes?

Again, frick Canada.

This deserves a lol.

Swedens defense industry is custom tailored to repel a Soviet incursion. It’s all they’ve done since WW2.

The days of pretending Western Civ is on the same page and natural allies is over.

Can't trust the UK and the Commonwealth, France, Germany, etc.

Freeze Canada out.

The Grippen is a very different plane than the F 35. I won't throw shade on the SAAB Swedish product. They were on their own until the Turks allowed them into NATO.

I think there are four NATO countries flying the Grippen. I remember Hungary, Czech Republic, to an extent Poland and another. Some are wanting to upgrade to the F-35. Certainly all European NATO countries depend on the US for the strength of that alliance. I don't think they are ready to cut us loose despite their collective wealth and population.

yes as part of their NATO commitment. the notion is that when we're fighting the "big one" we can seamlessly integrate our nato air assets with the F35.

the gripen weakness is pay load and range compared to the F35 and it's not stealth, meaning in joint operations with stealth aircraft it would be a real liability.

it's primary plus is it's low cost of operation, that's important for a thrifty air force! it's a 3rd generation air frame masquerading as a 4th generation fighter with upgraded avionics. similar to boeing's proposed F15 XL

We can't and are not forcing them. Can't you read English?

We can do lots of things.

Seriously. Can't you read?

no roger i've never agreed about anything with you, i don't believe you actually live in alaska, and i think your on social security disability. to be clear i couldn't have lower personal opinion of you.

the point is canada agreed with this going back as far as 1997 and reconfirmed in 2010 and they can't go it on their own.

right now canada's air force consist of 12,000 personnel and 85 canadian built F18 and 7 american made F18. they built a total of 138 F18 in the 80's and early 90's in a 2025 canadian report it noted that only 40% of those aircraft remained operational, so in reality canada doesn't have an air force
