Should have a 1 year look back.
I bought mine in the last week of December.

No worries, that $90k truck is going to list for $100k next year and the dealers are going to say, "Look, the brand new models are still only $90k because you get $10k back in interest deductions!!! Hurry and finance today!"

So you spend 6400 to reduce tax by 1500 over 4 years.
Unless i missed something here, def save more by paying off.
You're missing the opportunity cost of the money. If you can invest the 50k, you only need to get a return of 5k over the 4 years to come out ahead instead of 6400. The math isn't that simple as you would pay takes on the investment income, so it's about a wash.

All I know is it's not a valid function of government to be doing this shite.
Government has incentivized certain activities it promotes for years. It's in the country's best interest to buy American made cars.

The government has nothing. It's only function is to take wealth from one person and give it to another by threat of imprisonment or death.
But hey, it's all good as long as you get a cheaper car. frick your neighbor - just like the commandments say.

There will also be incentive to trade in to buy a new car (that qualifies) every year to get the maximum interest deduction benefit.

I only voted for Trump in 2024, so you're obviously mistaken. The last time I supported a republican beyond the primary before then was 2000. Prior to that was 1984. So those are my last "3 republican votes".
Taxes are theft, period.
When the government gets involved in deciding the prices and incentives on what products to buy, it's a step towards communism.
The conservative position is to get government out of our lives, not further involved. You are the other guy, not me.

Like 6% he originally intended to pay it off with the first bill but now he might as well just keep it financed. Hes retired so the income caps dont matter to him
I mean he will still have to pay the interest, and the tax benefit will be less than that

The whole concept of taxing income is relatively new to human history.
Say it louder for the poke in the back.
Then pay more taxes when using the income that has already been taxes. Sales tax, etc.
