Nope, the goal is fewer government workers. Make them fire themselves first.

He said get your lazy arse back to the office 5 days a week. Love it. I will call this the purge, federal and private.
This is easy to say, and most of the agencies are already doing this. In fact DHS Deputy Undersecretary for Management Randolph "Tex" Alles, testified to congress that DHS has well over 85% of its personnel in the offices or in the field, with the only people who are not being those whose job categories are uniquely qualified for remote work (IE: they sit in front of a computer all day). More importantly, most of the agencies have ceded their brick and mortar footprint and no longer have the actual capacity to provide workspace for those who are working remote. Bringing even half of them in would actually cost MUCH more than it would save.

I always figured work from home was more efficient to be honest. And this was 20 yrs before covid.
It is, and I know our agency has the metrics to prove it. The elimination of property and building requirements alone are astounding. Also productivity has been way up.
You always have dead weight that are F'ing off at home, but anyone with a brain knows they were F'ing off at work too, and in many cases distracting others while doing it.
The REAL problem is that it is next to impossible to terminate poor performers, and anytime you try, you get tied up with mounds of red tape, EEO complaints, etc.

I do not like working from home. I only do it when I have a sick kid or I am sick. Can't stand it. I like leaving work at work.

Agreed. Myself and many others feel like we are more productive and also have a much better home/work life balance due to WFH. We still meet in person when needed and have regular meetings, but the flexibility of getting your shite done is so much better.

This! Exactly this. One of the biggest problems with the Fed Agencies is that the employee pool is DC/Maryland/NoVA, that is why the deep state is a thing. I can attest to this personally. Our agency and my division in particular (since I head it) have taken advantage of remote policies to open up our vacancies nationwide. I have brought in employees from Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma so far.

That is silly though. Why pay for unemployment if you dont have to? that would be the fiscally irresponsible path. Whatever you can do to trim while avoiding firing folks is the obvious and best first step.
You really think a sizeable portion of teh workforce will voluntarily quit their job and lose all benefits with no other prospects lined up to take meager unemployment pay solelyover losing WFH?

Meh, not really a huge fan of that. Some jobs absolutely need full work weeks in the office. Some don't. It's also pretty easy to spot who fricks off at home and who doesn't. They're the same people that don't get shite done while in the office too
Right, it should be fairly easy to determine who produces and who doesn't. Having an arse in a seat doesn't change that.

Same but he is talking federal employees. I don’t fall under the gov umbrella.

The federal government is spending a shite ton of money on unoccupied office space in DC because so many government workers still work from home.

It’s a complete joke that many of these people haven’t returned to their offices since covid. Goes to show just how unnecessary and expendable their jobs really are.
This is an insanely stupid take. Many jobs, government or not, have people sitting in front of computers all day, why pay for land and office space just to bring them in to an office. Most every study shows that for these types of job remote work increases productivity.
The much bigger issue is effectively not being able to terminate government employees for poor performance. Trump made some inroads to this during his first term, but all of that got quickly reversed during the Biden administration.

So it’s a good use of taxpayers money to pay for buildings that aren’t being used?
And again, many of these employees are unnecessary paper pushers who would never be missed if fired.

Absolutely. I see it every day.

These people are like unicorns in the FedGov system... You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise...
This just shows you don't know what you are talking about. A fairly large number of government employees, especially in the DoD and DHS components are veterans and they really believe in their mission, they work hard, are generally over-worked and as was mentioned before have to work even harder 1. because of the broken system put in place by democrats, and 2. because they have to overcome much of the dead weight they work with, that again, because of Gov Unions, make it impossible to terminate gov workers for poor performance.

Requiring 5 days in office at this point is basically doing layoffs without having to pay for layoffs.
We all know this... Rama just said the quiet part out loud.

Yeah. Almost everyone who does it. That's why they (you) are so committed to doing it.

Which would be almost 100% of government bureaucrats. Keep in mind that that's who he is talking about here.
If your private sector boss is enough of a sucker to let you "work" from home, that's his business.
My taxpayer dollars pay these leeches salaries. That makes it my business.
They need to come to work.

Much of this has already been repurposed. I know for a fact my entire office has no specific "office" right now. We have a temporary "office location" shared with another competency, but there is absolutely no way they could bring even 1/4 of us in at the same time.
