Are you talking about the US government? Define collapse. In this scenario, the US still holds it's military assets?

I'm with you but we are going to have a large number of Beto voters who moved here from other states due to destroying them who are going to be really annoying & try to resist. We have the numbers & more ammo.
Those people can’t even change a tire.

A part of me thinks a place like Alabama or Mississippi would be better off than texas
Posted on 9/19/23 at 2:53 pm to MarsellusWallace
It won't.
Too many people dependent on our money.
We are still more stable and financially so much better off than most all countries. Not changing anytime soon.
Social media bickering is not going to change that.

Meh, depends on your age. I don’t see us lasting in our current form past another 30 years or so.

How do you think the country would be split and where would you want to be?
Louisiana better buddy up with Texas. Controlling the Mississippi would be important but doubt Louisiana could hold it without its bigger neighbor.

The United States isn’t exactly too big to fail, but its government structure is shockingly resilient. If the government defaulted on debts and currency collapsed, the government likely doesn’t just go away.
There’s four likely scenarios:
1. People are angry and vote to largely replace Congress and the Senate en-masse and elect a new President that guts the administrative state and successfully rights the ship economically to stabilize everything. There’s some pain, strife, and serious budget cuts, but the form of government never changes.
2. Things get bad enough that an angry mob effectively overthrows the government in Washington and establishes a new federal government in its place. Some states cooperate with the new government while others back the survivors of the former regime and start a government in exile based in one of those states. There is a long and bloody civil war.
3. The military intervenes and replaces the Congress, Senate, and President with temporary military rule by the Joint Chiefs who attempt to right the ship economically and law & order wise before returning the government to civilian control. This either works within a year and new elections are held or there is a protracted civil war as many states refuse to recognize the military’s civilian authority, and begin withholding taxes and calling up state national guards. This inevitably leads to either a military dictatorship ruled by a charismatic general/strong man or to the federal government completely disappearing and states forming loose confederacies, but mostly governing themselves as independent nations.
4. Peaceful secession sees enough of the states vote to withdraw from the federal government to trigger the federal government essentially ceasing to exist. The U.S. breaks up into its constituent states with minimal violence, much like the end of the Soviet Union. The states try to claim that they are not responsible for any share of the insolvent national debt, which is disagreed with by foreign creditors. The states then wage war against the creditors who seek to be compensated.
The unlikely scenario is everything breaks down to even the local government level as the entire nation descends desperately into sectarian violence that knows no borders. This results in a failed state ruled by various city-states and regional warlords which will be effectively post-apocalyptic.

WW3
That isn’t an argument to continue the current course, but financial collapse would most likely result in global war.
