The tipping point was the 2000Bush V. Gore election debacle.

When the democrats tried to steal the election in 2000. From that moment the left began treating the rightbas adversaries as opposed to compatriots with a different point of view.

You need to open your eyes a bit. And I say this as a staunch libertarian with multiple degrees in polisci and philosophy.
I'm not saying it's been successful. But the effort is rather blatant.
I mean it's what they are, it's what they do.

I think it depends on your age. When Kennedy was assisinated this act created a leadership vacuum and Lyndon Johnson became president. He mishandled the racial crisis and trying to buy votes by starting the great society at the cost of quality public education and the act of taking form the middle class and giving to the poor.
Compounding this was a terrible lie to the public regarding the Vietnam War and never defining why we were there. This caused a terrible divide between the patriotic public and people on the left who protested the war on TV every night. Walter Cronkite lied to the public and made matters even worse.
When Nixon was elected he did to his credit end the Vietnam war but because of his paranoia and constant hounding by the press make mistakes which his enemies pounced on and drove him out of office. Nixon was a choir boy compared to the Clintons and Obama by contrast.
Jimmy Carter was a totally unqualified leader and destroyed the economy.
Reagan was a beacon of hope. Clinton while being good for the economy and was conservative by today’s standards had his issues with women and destroyed a lot of confidence people had in the office of the presidency.
If I had to say it mostly started with Lyndon Johnson and Obama pushed us much further apart.

The 60s probably. We were close to the brink in the 70s but Reagan pulled us back. Unfortunately the Bushes squandered that opportunity and here we are again.

i find it very sad. it has become more divided the more the popular the internet and social media have become.
i'm pretty much as neutral as they come, but i've noticed anything semi pro republican i post on this board gets upvoted like crazy, and anything negative towards republicans gets downvotes and replies calling me cuck. on reddit its the exact opposite.
people are on teams now and if you arent with them you are against them and they have to rush to discredit your opinion.
both parties are perfect in their own bases eyes, or they will pretend they are because "the other party is evil" so i cant admit that mine is wrong on anything
Absolutely this. It has gotten to the point where you HAVE to choose a side, there can be no compromise. That leaves a lot of people like me stuck in the middle, not sure where they fall politically.

I know it feels that way, but it’s not the case at all

Obama. It wouldn’t have been quite as bad but Barry just tried to rub everyone’s noses in shite. For instance lighting up the White House in rainbows.
