It's a shite source. Their scale to determine 'poverty' includes lots of crap but leaves out 'how much money people have.'

It would surprise you to know that the poorest parts of Alabama are predominantly black and vote blue every single time.

list of all the $hittiest cities because they are democrat run. Most of them have had democrat leadership for 50 consecutive years or more....and they are still $hit holes. There is a common denominator here.

Not to mention, every city that allowed BLM and Antifa to burn, loot and murder were ALLLL democrat run.

Already been said.

Louisiana ranks 25th in GDP wealth but unfortunately this money is pissed away on welfare programs instead of improving the state.

Why are all the Leftists, Libtarded parasites moving to red states in droves? They flee their failed states and are still stupid enough to bring along their failed ideologies and try to inflict them on the new host.

Seems like at least twice a year we have a leftist that starts this exact thread, then hauls arse when demographics are pointed out.

Most of those states were “poor” since 1865. Coincidentally, most were also governed exclusively by democrats from 1877 until the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Also, despite voting red in federal elections (which most of those states have only done so since Reagan, and many of which were still blue again in the 90’s), Democrats dominate local government. West Virginia didn’t turn red until 2012! Several of those states have democrat governors like Louisiana. New Mexico is an extremely blue state.

Because your source is some leftist rag out of California

A 600 sq ft 1 bath shack in California costs a gazillion dollars, because your California heroes churn out an economic quagmire of hyperinflation

I assume you never took an economics class

These states aren't as poor as you think they are because the cost of living is much cheaper here. Somebody in a blue state may have a higher per capita income but if their cost of living is also higher than their standard of living might actually be lower.

Louisiana governor is Democrat.

Every major Louisiana city has a Democrat mayor.

I'll take a low cost couple three acres of pristine Heaven in Arkansas, with a boat ramp down the road, over your no brain California freaks shooting heroin in an overpriced cramped POS shack any day

Quality of public schools.

Blue collar employers are hard enough to come by after the 1980s. None of those states had a huge industrial base in the mid 20th century. They had major problems with education, forced bussing, and integration that has largely handicapped their competitiveness.

Unfortunately in the time it took for some of those states to finally start making progress in that area…the economy since has evolved away from industries that build a viable, lasting, and robust middle class that can afford to invest in public education.

Central Tennessee, northern Alabama and the southern part of Louisiana are probably doing a little better than the others on that list at building an industrial base and a middle class for various reasons. The real challenge for them now is to parlay that limited success into improvements that can help drive the states forward long term.

Tennessee is probably going to outpace the others in that respect because of Nashville’s broad appeal. Northern Alabama is successful establishing itself as an innovation based economy, but the rest of the state has shown mixed results. I think the limited progress in southern Louisiana in the last 75 years will be smothered by a contracting energy industry.
