Mann was a “professor” at Penn State and a big global warming nut. He faked a graph called the “hockey stick” graph (b/c it resembled an upside down hockey stick) to claim that global temperatures had spiked to near astronomical levels the past 20 years.
He then sued Rush Limbaugh’s best guest host, Mark Steyn, for defamation b/c Mark joked that Mann was cooking the data just like the football team was covering up child rape in the showers.

Actually James Hanson is the O.G. Climate hoaxer. Michael Mann invented the “hockey stick”.
The climate hoax began in earnest with James Hanson’s congressional testimony June 23, 1988. At this time a high pressure hung over the eastern seaboard and the DC area was under a heatwave. The night before James Hanson’s senate testimony the windows to the senate chambers where the testimony was going to take place were left open. All the A/c escaped the night before.
When the committee convened that morning before the senators and audience entered the room the windows were shut. The A/C did not have time to catch up and the room was very warm. As James Hanson was providing testimony about global warming people were sweating and fanning themselves adding to the dramatic effect.
