You apparently don't get around it very much, there's a lot of development going on for a "dying" city. Do you do anything to support local businesses?

Any hopes the distillery will be any good?

All the Nazis moved across the river to Bossier 20 years ago and took their tax money with them. And they're still coming. It's the fastest growing Parish in La.
No crime, good schools, lots of jobs, nice new upscale neighborhoods. Hell, we've got 4 Starbucks on Airline Drive.

White flight. That’s why there are old white people still. They’re too old to move. So they’re stuck with the shitty ghetto environment.

It's decline began in the 1960s/1970s as it ceased to be an oil & gas center. United Gas (acquired by Pennzoil) and Texas Eastern provided hundreds, maybe thousands, of white collar jobs that moved to Houston. At one time most major producers had a regional office there, with production offices located in nearby fields. It has been trying to redefine itself ever since.
Plus as demographics changed, there was already a "St. George" in place in Bossier City, safely across the river and in another parish.

Why is Shreveport dying?
quote:demographics. We all know the answer. Why might someone get banned. For stating the truth that it's demographics.
Why is Bossier different??
Why does Atlanta do better than a Shreveport? Suburban cities and towns.

Why would we ever want to provide equal education to people? People arent equal in academic ability.

I hope the distillery will be very good, as are most of the local breweries already. We are loaded with great local restaurants and there is development going on, albeit mostly in the Ellerbe area but I'm seeing homes in the Broadmoor and Highland areas getting serious attention in recent years instead of languishing as rental properties. The OP is misguided but it's an unfortunately common in those that aren't paying attention.

They do it in Bossier city???????

Yeah. Shreveport isn’t immune to national trends. Small to mid sized cities all across the country are struggling, especially those in the south and Midwest.
Crime was trending downward for 2 decades, and then began spiking again, but again, that was consistent with national trends.
SE Shreveport is a fine place to live. It’s a shame that the rest of the city is crumbling around itself, but like most cities, people stay in their bubble and are pretty insulated from the other areas.
I know I don’t blink at murders in Queensborough or Allendale.

Why should smarter kids be forced into sub-standard schools and the kids who don't have the academic ability be forced into programs they are certain to fail?

It always looked very fishy to me that it was some sort of back door or compromise for wealthy people to send their children to public school.
I had to take aptitude tests for both middle and high school, my family wasn't wealthy then but my parents cared enough about their children's education to put in extra effort.

Where is Bossier, on the other hand, has stellar school performance in all school programs.
That's a serious exaggeration.

Why is Bossier different??
Demograhpics, the same reason there is such differences all over the world.

Lemme splain it.
The Shreveport Magnet system only works for the Academic Magnets. And there are only a handful:
The pure: South Highlands Elementary, Caddo Middle, Caddo Magnet.
The semi: Byrd HS
That's 10% of the students. The other schools are crap.
They keep the Magnet schools going because if they mixed them together the parents would send their kids to Loyola or move to Bossier.
The Bossier Schools have no Magnets. It's all neighborhood schools. The quality of school depends on the neighborhood. So, a high concentration of republicans (like Benton) is where the best schools are. A high concentration of democrats (like Plain Dealing) is where the worst schools are.
The biggest difference between the two parishes is the central offices and school boards. Bossier is run by republicans. Staff is very small and very efficient.
Caddo is run by democrats. The central office staff is a small city and they have no idea what they're doing.

Shreveport started dying in the mid 70's. Downtown used to be pretty cool, even as late as the mid 80's. The Square was fun as hell in the early 80's.
Just never found a niche industry outside of O&G, and gambling.

Shreveport was doomed when the Wallace lake plane crash killed all the heavy hitters returning from a duck hunting trip in 1948

Was stationed at Barksdale in the early 90's. Shreveport had the longest list of off-limits places I saw over a 20 year career.

Ok so there are some good restaurants on Line Ave.and scattered around Shreveport, but if you can’t admit Shreveport is dying a slow painful death and has been for some time you are delusional
