Marginal propensity to consume isn't constant, a fair tax plan is better. Aggy great Neal Boortz has talked about this for decades if any of you Atlanta folk listen to the radio.

Absolutely all for it. Makes the most sense. Never happen though. Would eliminate 100s of thousands of IRS positions. Would destroy an entire industry of tax preparers and would force 47% of our population to pay taxes that currently don't.

Nope. I would also prefer taxpayers pay taxes directly to the government instead of through the employer.

My FIL is a farmer and has to do this. Every American should. It’ll piss of everyone real quick

No, as long as it was paid by everyone. Every single adult. If there is one exception or a minimum income threshold then it’s not a flat tax and I’m out.

Prefer a national sales tax as previous poster(s) said. Everybody contributes: illegals, drug traffickers, poor and rich alike....

This needs its own spinoff thread. There are all sorts of effects that this may have on pricing, especially in the secondary/used markets.

New suit for $1k + tax? Maybe I'll hold on to my old one a little longer or buy used. New iPhone 72X for $1300 + tax? Nah, I'll buy a used iPhone 71S. All that would drive prices up on used items.

It would make us a more frugal nation, I think.

Id prefer a consumption based tax

This, so that all the people running cash based businesses and those here illegally still contribute. Also, if you make more and spend more, then you pay more. If you are on federal assistance then the consumption tax is waived.

I have long been 100% FOR a flat tax rate. Provided it is a low enough number, of course.

Socialists don't realize how much it would benefit the lower classes if upper classes, especially those who own businesses, were not having to compensate for their high tax rates they pay, by not only hiring less people, but cutting employee benefits.

The small minded thinking that you can just take from the rich because "they don't need it" is what has brought down every socialist/communist economy in the history of the world.

Well, the IRS is, and always has been, a scam. So it needs to be eradicated. And tax preparers only have work for a small portion of the year. They should not have much problem finding something else to take the place of their old part-time jobs.

So these things should not be a hindrance to a flat tax, IMO.

This. I bet many would be surprised to find out their (federal) taxes are their largest monthly expense.

I don’t want any income tax. Go back to the way it was intended. Forget allowing the government to choose who to punish and who to reward.
