He's at his best, IMO, when he plays as a box to box. I always envisioned him as a poor man's Michael Ballack. He shouldn't be taking free kicks either, because he's really good in the air and doesn't really hit a good enough ball

I actually like him as a pivot midfielder. He does love running though, and he is a great athlete, but I really think he missed his calling as a water-carrier sort of player, as he's always been asked to shoulder some offensive load where ever he's played.

I miss him being in the box on set pieces. I do agree he's been at his best as a box to box guy but jurgen only lets Jermaine play that role for the national team, which means Bradley has to be the one with some sort of defensive discipline.

He's not a great athlete. Not a terrible one either, but nowhere near great. When played as a b2b guy, he will run his arse off and actually makes up for a lack of natural ability and athleticism. And for what he's done with the US team, he's a legend and one of the best midfielders we've had. But in terms of what I would consider great athleticism, he is seriously lacking. He also has this bad habit of not showing up for the big games. Not good for a guy wearing the armband. I'm not going to blame on it on his coming back to MLS, but he has been a noticeably different player from when he was in Europe.

He can run forever and has insane stamina. It's a different definition of an athlete, but having a tall, rangy CM with good stamina is pretty much the best you can do in terms of athleticism at that position. He isn't explosive, which I think is closer to the mainstream definition of athleticism.

It's so fricking dumb to use Bradley as a 6 in a 2-man midfield when paired with Jones who is always the box-to-box destroyer.
Tactically, we have no real creator to bridge one third to other.
It would have made too much sense to go three-man midfield today (you know, like we have done a lot this year and had success with) with Bradley as the disciplined 6, Jones in the destroyer 8 and Kljestan as your 10.
But alas...

IMO Bradley should be distributing the ball from the deep to players like Kljestan. Allow Bradley to concentrate on what he is best at and IMO that is anticipatory defense, spacing and positioning, impeding dangerous attacks, and breaking up offensive combo play. Attacking and dribbling in space and chasing down attackers from behind are not at the top of his skill list.
I essentially agree with everything you said. The USMNT had about 5 guys trying to fulfill a form of the 10 role. The best 10 role player the USMNT has is Kljestan. He has the best attacking vision, passing, technical skill, movement, and distribution. Let him play 10 and surround him with dangerous weapons like Pulisic and Johnson on the wings and Wood and Altidore in front of him. The USMNT would essentially have two generals on the field, Kljestan in front and Bradley in rear, with high football IQs and in roles that suit their abilities. Also, Kljestan is very good on corners, another area where Bradley is spotty. Bradley is a physical player that needs to be in the box on corners, not taking them.
I am still stunned that Klinsmann would suddenly come out in a 3-5-2 in a WCQ against Mexico. I enjoy the 3-5-2, but it is almost as if this was thought up on a whim. The USMNT needs to find an identity.

We've been saying this for five years. Why might that be?
