Happy for Croatia. Wanted football to go home but man I can't even be mad. Croatia has a team of fricking warriors. Unbelievable.

Yeah I said earlier ITT, I love watching Croatia play. I don't watch much club soccer anymore, but their midfield is right there with France's as 1a and 1b IMO.

Wimbledon would have been weird on Sunday with everyone paying attention to the game, anyway. This is for the best.

The ref let them play from the get go, and called the game evenly. As others said, Croatia adjusted and England didn't. This is from the end of the first half on.

At the end, England was as responsible for the wasted time in the second extra time as Croatia was.

They started fighting with Croatian players instead of just putting the ball down and getting the play started. You can't start shite like that and then try to quick start the free kick. The referee correctly didn't add extra time on for stupidity on England's part.

They choked and didn't handle the pressure. They are front-runners like KD. Great when they are out front, but when they are down, the fold like a cheap tent.

I think it would take:

Modric, Rakitic, Brozovic

over

Pogba, Kante, Matuidi

Real close though like you said.

Does this somehow make England's 2018 midfield less of an embarrassment?

That midfield got them further than Frank and Stevie ever did.

The midfield had nothing to do with getting them to the semis. Which is my entire point.

Put 2006/2010 Lampard and Gerrard in this squad rather than Lingard and Henderson and you've got a force to be reckoned with.

How many goals from open play do France's midfielders have? I'm talking Kante, Pogba, and Matuidi.

I'll hang up and listen.

So you're comparing England's 3 to France's now?

England don't produce the type of midfielder, in general, that would succeed in international play. They produce about one in a generation. They didn't use Scholes the right way, especially later in his career, never used Carrick the right way, Wilshere never lived up to his potential, and there isn't anyone to take up the DLP mantle. Maybe Phil Foden can be the next midfielder England use poorly.

TN's point was that England's midfielders only have two goals from open play. France's midfield three has zero. My point was that goals scored from midfield is maybe not the best metric by which to judge the midfield, as France's is clearly superior.

I'm pretty sure he was pointing out that England only had two goals in open play total. Not just the midfield.
