What's funny about that? Schneiderlin has been pretty great for Southampton for the past two seasons. I'd love for Arsenal to pick him up.

That's exactly my point. I'd take him over at least two of those other midfielders.

Not surprising that he wasn't taken, since he hasn't had a cap and he's basically been educated at Southampton.

Southampton has a pretty good recent track record for banging out high quality players. Granted, they usually sell but still.

I guess it shouldn't be a huge shock that they're taking French based players over him though.

Mexes, Squillaci, Gallas, and Silvestre are the only French CBs (I can think of right now off the top of my head) that are better than him. It's sad he never got a cap.

Edit to say that I could see starting over him at some point during his career.

I'll give you Koscielny and Rami (forgot him), but I don't watch alot of Spanish League 1 to really tell you if hes better than Distin.

But, my point being that he has had some very solid years, and I always feel for the guys that are right on the edge, but never get the call up.

A midfield three of Pogba, Matuidi, and Cabaye, with Ribery on the left, Valbuena drifting in from the right, and Benzema up top would be kind of interesting.

You'd have to have attacking fullbacks for that to work, but they're reasonably well set there (I don't know much about Digne).

I'm not sure how they'd work it out if they went 4-2-3-1. I don't think you move Ribery from the left no matter what. Maybe they could put Valbuena as the 10 and stick Griezmann on the right.

There's still a lot of talent there. FWIW I would be more surprised by Belgium winning the World Cup than France doing it (granted I definitely don't think either will).

Valbuena won't be playing anywhere but centrally.

He's started out on the right for them before. Even though they're obviously different players, it's a bit like when Dempsey plays on the "left" for us, he always ends up drifting into the middle.

Unless I'm just missing something, I don't see a naturally right sided attacking player for them. If they went with an attacking three of Ribery, Valbuena, and Benzema, they'd really have to get some width from the full backs, especially on the right side.

Digne is the heir apparent on the left and has IMO surpassed what Evra offers. He is inexperienced but very good. No telling how he will perform on the big stage though.

More than likely we will see Valbuena on the right, with Debuchy overlapping on the outside. France is a team I think will do really well, as long as they are focused and have their heads completely out of their asses. So a 50/50 chance they do well.

I built the best squad, I did not pick the 23 best French players."

solid public shaming, imo.

It's an interesting team. Obviously there's potential for meltdown, but it's kind of tactically interesting.

The midfield 3 could be really good. Matuidi's used to being the box to box guy next to more technical guys at PSG. Pogba and Cabaye are really good and pretty versatile. You could put together a good 2 man midfield with that group too.

Valbuena always impresses me, Ribery's obviously one of the best players in the world, and Benzema's been playing well, although he's had some issues playing for France.

I even think Giroud and Remy would be an interesting combination - they really seem like they'd compliment each other well, even though they probably won't go with two strikers often, and Benzema will probably be involved.

Benzema seemed to have locked down his role in the last 4 or 5 months. Giroud has been out of form and Remy is...well Remy.

They will have one the most balanced and talented midfields at the tournament and a very solid back line. The ingredients are there for a deep run but they can't be getting in their own way if they are to do it.

Hopefully Griezmann gets an opportunity to play. I've seen him a few times this year and he impressed every single time. He doesn't really fit into the starting IX right now though.
