Other than for pride and trophy, is there any incentive to winning the Gold Cup this year?

Not really.

Honestly, it's only memorable if it's a US/Mexico final. I mean, it was cool and all to beat Panama in 13 an Jamaica in 17, but when you beat Mexico, it feels like an actual final and a trophy that is earned.

Its bs if we win it this year that we dont get to reap the reward of going to the Confederations Cup in 2021 like you wouldve in past WC cycles for winning the 2017 and 2019 Gold Cups.

Didn't we win the 2017 Gold Cup? We would still have a chance to go to the Confederations Cup.

Yes, thus IF there was a Confeds Cup in 2021 we would qualify. Did you see the rest of my post? There is no Confed Cup this WC cycle. I just dont remember the reason why

According to the Confed Cup Wiki page...

quote:

In March 2019, FIFA confirmed that the tournament would no longer be active owing to an expansion of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.[1]

They've been playing lights out the whole second half. Definitely didn't see it coming after the first.

Costa Rica was flat all the way to the end of the second half. Had a GREAT chance in stoppage time and skied it from around 8 yds out.

I think making all those changes to the starting lineup bit Costa Rica in the arse. They underestimated Haiti.

Now they’ll have to play Mexico in the quarterfinals instead of Canada. That sets up two very interesting games on the other side of the bracket.

Maybe it was just me, but that game seemed extremely fast paced.

I know we got bounced by Jamaica in 2015 and even lost to them in a friendly a week and a half ago, but damn we can basically sleep walk to the final.

Seeker, definitely was fast-paced in that second half. Seemed like every other minute Haiti enjoyed a couple of breaks and couldn’t find the open man. Better passing and they make Costa Rica look silly out there. Probably 3-1 or 4-1.

Broski, I hear you. We had basically zero Euro talent in our side when we played that recent friendly. We should* have no issues with Jamaica this time around.

Absolutely. We have no excuse to not make the final with how the bracket worked out.

Mexico has shown signs of being beatable, as well. If we’re peaking going into the final, we can maybe win this whole thing again. Let’s keep improving with each performance.

There's even a chance that Jamaica doesn't even make it out of their group if they lose to Curacao tomorrow and El Salvador beats Honduras.

These Saturday quarterfinal games could be really good, by Gold Cup standards anyway.
