I picked a team a few years ago. My buddy's told me to make sure I picked a team that was on TV all the time. That knocks out a good bit of them. I read up on the history of most of those teams and kind of went from there. I had no clue who was who and who was actually good or not or where they finished in the table the prior year. I just knew I didn't want to root for Man U.
I'm a City guy.... which is great cause my other buddies are Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton guys. Fun watching soccer at the tailgate talking shite at 6:30 in the morning.

I'm going to compare the title contenders most people support to CFB teams to give some perspective. They might be terrible, but what the hell.
Manchester United = Alabama- Great team both historically and recently. Sir Alex Ferguson is revered by United fans like the Bear is by Crimson Tide fans.
Chelsea = LSU- A team with a solid history that has reached a new level since the turn of the century. Similar to LSU, Chelsea has the resources in place to be a power for the foreseeable future.
Liverpool = Notre Dame- Arguably the team with the best history in English football but hasn't won a league title in over 20 years. Liverpool has legendary traditions similar to Notre Dame.
Arsenal = Southern Cal- Despite oftentimes being more flash than substance, Arsenal has had some of the best teams in the Premier League, but has consistently failed to reach lofty expectations this decade.
Tottenham = Oregon- A team that is kind of new to being a regular title contender. Tottenham has been very good recently but hasn't quite gotten over the hump to win a title.
Manchester City = Florida State- Lacking tradition but has the resources in place to be great and has been one of the best teams recently.
I started watching before Saban got things going at Alabama, so I picked Liverpool because the teams reminded me of each other. I'm not very committed to one team anymore though. I just enjoy the league without a serious rooting interest.

No one has any expectations for us, to be fair, except falling out of the top four.

Started watched EPL this year with my 9 yo son and we just started pulling for Arsenal. Was a great choice. I'd highly recommend it.

This post is a perfect example of why you shouldn't compare soccer and football. LSU and Chelsea? Tottenham and Oregon? City and FSU? FFS.

Tottenham and Clemson would've been a better comparison (before this past season at least)

Pick a team because of their sponsor. If you like Chevy, pick Man U. I liked AIG too and that was their old sponsor.

You don't pick a team, a team will pick you

No.

I recommend Everton. They're on the rise and have great history. They've won 9 league titles and 5 FA Cups. The last trophy Everton won was in 1995.Tim Howard and Landon Donovan also played for Everton. This would be a great club if you don't want to be labeled as a bandwagoner. My other choices would be Tottenham, Newcastle, or West Ham.

UPDATE:
I have decided to take my talents to Anfield. Liverpool has chosen me and I them to be my #1 EPL team for the foreseeable future. Too many connections to pass up.
1. I like John W. Henry as the owner. I'm a born and raised Red Sox fan.
2. Jurgen Klopp's connection to Borussia Dortmand pulled me into watching Liverpool the past couple weeks. Pulisic pulled me into Borussia Dortmand.
3. Mane and Firmino are fun as hell to watch. Wish Coutinho would stay.
4. The total domination of Hoffenheim yesterday sealed the deal!
5. I like the Firmino's gangsta walk celebration
I have also enjoyed watching Stoke City, Everton, and Huddersfield Town. Newcastle U and West Ham have been disappointing. Arsenal didn't know it, but the loss to Stoke City sealed their fate. I haven't watched Chelsea or Spurs since the first match week so can't pass judgement, but time is up and Liverpool won my heart.
Any Liverpool fans want to welcome me and teach me the secret handshake?
